Diva Vs. Real Analog

I recently purchased Diva and can attest that it is a really nice-sounding plug-in. However, like ACE (which I also own,) the CPU usage seems excessive. If you compare Diva to SonicProject's OP-X Pro II, which sounds arguably just as "analog," Diva requires almost twice the CPU power for a similar sound.
Diva is certainly more flexible in terms of the range of sounds on offer. And it has a much better interface. (The OP-X Pro II interface is awful - it has almost all the limitations of the modeled hardware with a number of poorly-thought-out additions haphazardly "bolted on" to the front panel.) But from a pure sound perspective OP-X Pro sounds quite good - and manages to do so using far less CPU power than does Diva.
Incidentally, I am running Diva on a custom built 3.2 GHz Core i7 PC (in addition to my 2.8 GHz Core i7 iMac). I can't play more than a few notes on a lot of the Diva sounds without maxing out the core that the plug-in is running on. The iMac actually performs better than the PC, btw.
So unless single cores get A LOT faster, I'm not sure how useful Diva will be for pad parts, etc. that require a lot of voices. Hopefully Urs can get it running on multiple cores.

You must be using many voices and long release times.Twiddle Tweak wrote: Incidentally, I am running Diva on a custom built 3.2 GHz Core i7 PC (in addition to my 2.8 GHz Core i7 iMac). I have a 2010 macbookpro 2.88ghz core2duo, with 4gb ram.
It has no problem handling Diva at all.
That being I only use 1 voice.
3 or 4 note pads hover around 50% w/t one voice.
What your speaking of is long release with many voices or something.
I have mono and legato sounds that use less cpu than Zebra.
As far as that OPX thing.
I tried it on my pc a while back. It sounds good, but not as good as Diva imo. They don't have a mac osx version, so as far as I care, it's useless to me, or anyone else who does audio using macs only.
Even if Diva is easiest with cpu for mono, legato, duo, basses and leads, then that's fine with me, as it does the VA thing better than anything currently in the software market.
If OPX ever has a mac version, then we can actually get a Diva vs OPX thread.
Until then, they aren't even on my radar.

I'm in need of a vacation, hence I haven't done a proper product page yet. I'll do one some time in March.hibidy wrote:Where are all the vids/examples for Diva? Did I miss them on the site?

Exactly. I own the MM - 4 Arturias actually - and I only use one of them now - the Arp2600 - because I can get the other sounds from Zebra or Diva or ACE. Now to tell the truth if you just do some static pads with 9 oscillators, the MM is useful. It can do some unique sounds. Unfortunately, the filters absolutely suck as soon as you touch them. They zip louder than my parka.goldenanalog wrote:Not that MM is bad, it isn't. It's the comparison...

Diva is really the first VSTi that I would prefer to some hardware VA's (but not to real analogs).
BTW, even Diva's modeling is not that perfect. For example, filter behaves independently of how exactly you move Cutoff/Resonance knobs to their position. I.e., often on an analog synth you can excite self-oscillation at some position of resonance knob, and then it will keep going even when you lower the resonance much below that initial excitation level, but that's not the case with Diva (even though I've seen such behaviour replicated in some other VSTi's).

So of course we all welcome and encourage the development of new, cool digital tech. It has revolutionized music. And we're also happy now (at least I am satisfied) that we have the full capabilities of analog in the digital domain.
As far as I'm concerned, the whole issue for me is now over and I have everything I want!
Did you guys miss that...?goldenanalog wrote:need it's heads lapped for X hours

I also have OP-X Pro II and I agree with this statement 100%...Twiddle Tweak wrote: The OP-X Pro II interface is awful - it has almost all the limitations of the modeled hardware with a number of poorly-thought-out additions haphazardly "bolted on" to the front panel.
She needs a complete makeover and to be native x64 as well...
She may have to be re-coded from scratch though to make everything happen..
She's a Synth Edit creation....
I'm not a fan of the SE stuff and she's the only piece of SE in my toolbox..

I have never seen someone here at kvr, who tried so hard to get banned, and didn't.randyandyvandaman wrote:I think you are all sucking one another's dick.
Talk about stroking the devs ego.
Why do we have to have ten threads from the one developer alll the time.
Ban me then f**k you counts.
Cheers
I wish a moderator could explain why?
Un'f'inbelievable, that this nutter gets to say this s**t and get away with it, when space didn't even say anything, and got booted.
Get a grip randyandyspamman...we know you work for some going under hardware wannabe anallog synth maker, who is starting to lose customers due to more accurately modeled soft synths. You can deny it, but that will just make me believe it more.

Wow. Randy, you make yourself out to be a hostile, bitter person in this post. Why the hostility? Can't afford it? Jealous because others can? What?mcnoone wrote:I have never seen someone here at kvr, who tried so hard to get banned, and didn't.randyandyvandaman wrote:I think you are all sucking one another's dick.
