Annual Subscription for Iris Presets Iris 2

Post

As I'm currently converting all patches from the excerpt “Best Of Iris Subscription Vol. 1 - Strings&Voices“, here are two vocal iris 2-presets in a rather surreal atmosphere:

Post

Another converted Iris 2 patch, derived from/made with a celtic harp flageolet texture.

Harp Delusion
The sample of a sequence with flageolet notes played on the celtic harp I sampled for my MachFive 3 library Scattered Entity is used in all 3 oscillators.
The modulation wheel adds aliased distortion, reduces the LP cutoff and also adds some chorus FX. Macros 1+2 control amount/time of delay FX, M3 adds reverb, M4 adds pitch modulation to S1+2, M5 adds pan modulation to S3.

In the Iris 2-version, Macro 6 introduces pan modulation in S2.

Improvising with a new patch from the upcoming set no. 66 - Spectral Wanderer, quite mysterious, beautiful and deep:

Here comes the release info for set no. 66 and another demo combining 3 fresh patches.

Iris subscription set 66 uploaded on February 4 - 2016 containing 11 presets (315.8 MB) including:

Bell Scape Split
Upper register: Re-synthesized soundscape made with Melodyne 4 layered in S1/2,each layer has it’s dedicated volume control (Macros 3/4).
Lower register: strange drone with metallic accents - overlapping split point C2 (C3 in Iris). MW adds noise-shaped pitch modulation to the upper sounds and random pitch modulation to the drone. All samples play in non-retrigger mode. Check the Macro page for filter and FX controls.

Jupiter Rain
Re-synthesizing a tonal Phonem texture from Phonemklatura with Melodyne 4, both oscillators use the same soundscape sample, S2 has it’s dedicated volume control, playing the end of the sample back and forth. Both oscillators run in non-retrigger mode, MW introduces tempo-synced, square-shaped pitch modulation. Check the Macro page for filter, envelope and FX controls.

New Age Morph
Audio-morphing several electronic sounds with each other, All 3 oscillators use the same long sample, highlighting different segments, S2 has it’s dedicated volume control (Macro 3) playing a very dotted selection running in Radius RT-mode, S1/3 running in non-retrigger mode. Macro 4 adds pan modulation to S3, control panning speed with M5. control volume level with M6. Check the Macro page for filter and FX controls.

Overtone Animal Split
Lower register: Audio-morphing a Tuvan vocal drone from MetaVox for Alchemy with a synth drone, S1/2 play inverted spectral selections, S1 running in Radius RT-mode, S2 in non-retrigger mode, the latter having it’s dedicated volume control (S3).
Upper register: A re-synthesized vocal texture made with Melodyne 4 running in non-retrigger mode, M1 (x) controls distortion send, M2 adds chorus to the lower sounds, MW introduces tempo-synced amplitude modulation - split point C#3 (C#4 in Iris).

Puja Resynth Split
A field recording I made in a Taipei temple, Buddhist nuns singing and drumming - re-synthesized with Melodyne 4 and then time-stretched. Both oscillators use the same sample, highlighting different segments, running in non-retrigger mode overlapping split point: C3 (C4 in Iris). Macro 2 controls LP filter cutoff, dialing in M2 makes the cutoff velocity sensitive. Glide is activated. MW adds vibrato. Check the Macro page for filter and FX controls.

Spectral Flute Trill
Spectralized flute trill, both oscillators use the same long sample, S1 running in Radius RT-mode, S2 playing back and forth in non-retrigger mode, use Macro 3 for controlling the volume of S2, bipolar M4 tunes S2 down/up 1 octave (scaled in semitones). M5 adds pan modulation. M1/2 (x/y) control amount of delay/reverb FX, MW decreases filter cutoff, adds aliasing distortion and chorus FX.

Spectral Wanderer Split
Split in S1/2, running in non-retrigger mode is a complex spectral soundscape made by combining re-synthesis with audio-morphing, split point: C3. S3 playing over the entire range )C-1 -C7) adds a Photosounder texture, pitch tracking is switched off, add pitch modulation to S3 with Macro 6, control PM speed with M7, control it’s volume with M5. MW adds noise-shaped pitch modulation to S1/2. Check the Macro page for filter and FX controls.

The Pit
Field recording which I recorded in a Russian coal mine (open-cast mining in Chelyabinsk), a small transportation train descends into the giant pit uttering faint signals. All 3 oscillators use this long sample, highlighting different segments, each oscillator has it’s dedicated volume control (Macros 3-5), M1 (x) introduces individual pan modulation, MW adds chorus modulation. Check the Macro page for filter and FX controls.

Tinkle Stars Split
Ethereal tinkle scape made with Melodyne 4, both oscillators use the same long soundscape, the sound in the upper half (S1) playing a very dotted selection running in Radius RT-mode, overlapping split point: C3 (C4 in Iris). MW adds tempo-synced pitch modulation - saw up-shaped in S1, square-shaped in S2. Tune S1 up an octave with Macro 2 (y). Check the Macro page for filter and FX controls.

Vocal Mayhem Morph Split
Lower half: S1 -> audio-morphing a female vocal texture with a Phonem sound from Phonemklatura - this sound is layered with a processed male overtone singing drone (S3) to enhance the root note of the tonality, both oscillators are running in non-retrigger mode. Control the drone volume with Macro 3, add tempo-synced amplitude modulation to S3 with M4, add noise-shaped pitch modulation to S1 with M6.
Upper half: a very dotted selection from the female vocal texture running in Radius RT-mode, add random pitch modulation with M5 - split point C3 (C4 in Iris). MW decreases LP filter cutoff and adds some distortion. Check the Macro page for filter and FX controls.

Vox Gong Morph Split
Lower half: layered in S1/2 with inverted spectral selections, running in non-retrigger mode is a Tuvan vocal drone audio-morphed with a processed Thai gong-texture, both oscillators use a slow LFO to modulate their volume at different speeds, creating an ever changing texture.
Upper half: the processed Thai gong texture which was used to morph the vocal drone playing in non-retrigger mode, MW adds tempo-synced amplitude modulation - overlapping split point: C4 (C5 in Iris).
Macro 2 controls HP filter cutoff, M1 adds slow filter modulation, control modulation speed with M3. Check the Macro page for filter and FX controls.

Hello I just made a Track using the Bell Scape Split.

Got creative with the modulations and added some Valhalla Shimmer and Übermod, spent most of my time trying to make the entrances and exits of the 4 voices interesting and appropriate.

waves break, but somehow it all makes sense.

Nice one, thank's for posting - a strange mixture of ethereal, surreal and ominous moments, great sound overall!

Thanks for the positive feedback Simon. I especially like the Surreal comment. In fact I just read an article on Andy Warhol in the New Yorker magazine ( I have digital subscription highly recommended!) where Surrealism and Salvador Dali is mentioned so that ties in here pretty well. The surreal approach my be an important way to begin to digest whats happening in the developments in the world today, as the literalists and hardliners the Hawks break things up I can't help but think that maybe we don't have enough artists exerting a constructive influence after all..

I have loaded up a project with the 11 sounds from set 66 each with their dedicated instrument and track. At first meeting I'm finding a lot of interesting and useful sounds. I'm going to have a great time exploring these. I need to rethink or at least develop my technique for working with the Iris sounds. Not so many sounds are needed to get a rich track as each patch can be worked with in so many ways..

I highly recommend the Iris Subscription anno 2016.

Wade

The collection now includes 122 Iris 2 Patches (2.5 GB of samples) from the total of 502 patches and 11+GB of samples - LOL, took me almost a year to get this far :dog: :tu: :bang: :harp:
I'm impressed by your diligence here thanks for your hard work.

New Track using another sound for the Iris Subscription Set 66 Jupiter Rain

I used the Iris macros controls, mod. wheel and pitch bend in real time as well had two automated sends going to the effects Trash 2 and Vahahalla Shimmer alternately and both are sent into the PSP Rotary speaker effect.

I quite like the Jupiter weather

I'm continuing my exploration of the Subscription set 66 this time using the New Age Morph sound. I make use of all the Macros, no additional effects used though I use the MautodynamicEq and the FabFilter Pro C compressor and Pro L limiter on the master bus.

Thanks for listening, I'm quite pleased with the Iris subscription sounds, they seem to offer interesting sounds from all of your other libraries in a very CPU non intensive package, especially if you just explore the possibilities in one sound.. It's like trying to work with something wild with a mind of it's own, so I guess it needs broad strokes with the composition so the soundsiverses can breath out their detail..

Well, making samples for Iris is also my personal experimentation field of working with my own sounds, using raw samples or synth sounds from other sets, layering them, re-synthesizing them with Melodyne 4/Alchemy2/Metasynth/Photosounder, finding complex FX combinations to create totally new material from it, but it also goes both ways, some sounds I make for Iris alone and recycle/rework them years later sometimes for other stuff.

It's amazing what you getting out of the tools you mention.. years of work may make it appear easy to the novice but to me I don't think I'd have the time nor talent to reach that level of quality and in that quantity..

Great work and money is on the way from this user!
