And I told this because the tactile response is not as good on most win devices
but even without that, when you take a look to sonar demo you quickly understand that without a large screen (larger than ipad pro or surface screen) it's quite impossible to use it without a pencil.
There is a true difference between adding tactile UI support and creating a tactile UI app,
The rebirth ios porting is another exemple, without drastical UI changes the app is quite unusable due to the size of the screen,
If third party dev release such pleasing apps on ios store it's not only because the hardware device offer a very good experience but also because iOS itself force them to find new form of UI,
Something that's not even happen on win product because nothing forces historical dev to change their UI when most of their customers still use mouse + keyboard UI.
Those same historical companies have certainly few interest in the iOS market for the moment.
But who cares when it lets new actors taking advantage of this new market anf force big companies to move on to fill the gap.
and Yes I totally understand what could happen with AU on iOS9,
Certainly not waves or UAD but a lot of new dev happy to release plugins for new iOS DAW host with tactile UI in mind, something sonar or fl studio are not.

WHEN WHEN WHEN.....is the iPad going to DIE? Since this thread started I have sold and rebought 3 friggin generations of iPads. Why are the KVR fortune tellers so imprecise now a days? And WTF is this iPad Pro thing everyone is talking about? Such a thing shouldn't be possible, should it?

Had a surface, not bad but even less repairable than an ipad, and very expensive if anything happens to it.
And well developers on iPad are really delivering good UI for touch. Nothing similar in windows.
Still for me the best: Lemur controlling Live.

I guess the kvr fortune tellers are about as accurate as any other fortune tellers.

That is the bad side of a hybrid device. Still mainly non-touch friendly UI's from medieval.
IOS is crippled and so but for multi-touch it still rules!
I would like to see more advanced native "remote" apps to control their desktop plug-ins!
Best of booth world!!

Small isn't better. You can do some work on these things but why? Its torture. Of course iPad won't die, its a bling thing.

How is it torture? I love traveling with nothing but an iPad and BT keyboard. Works great with Office docs, remote server access, email, etc. And when it's time to work on tunes, there's a lot of options that are great. The Surface Pro, IMO, is torture. We bought some for our fleet, and they're really flaky, neither Win8.1 nor 10 is all that great on a touch interface, and the hardware is unreliable.UltraJv wrote:Small isn't better. I really wish the multi-touch experience would be better on windows 10 (yes i tryed it myself).
But the lack of "real" multi-touch apps makes it a pain in the arse.
The full amazing desktop tools doesn't work for touch. There are no good apps like ThumbJam, Animoog, Model 15, Patterning, Virsyn Apps....etc.
(Sadly) the iPad seems to be the king by a country mile for this kind of apps.
Developers seems to won't go trough the pain of windows 10.
Seems i have to buy me an iPad Pro along with a Macbook Pro to get the best of both worlds and beeing still mobile.
Still wish there will be a hybrid from Apple some day but i doubt that will happen soon (if ever).
Maybe in a few years iOS will replace OSX since it's their money maker.
Once they release a full X-code for iOS developement and ARM chips take over the slowly evolving and overpriced intel chips it might happen.
At the moment iOS is a pain to use but these apps are just fantastic (and cheap).

Surface Pro 3. Unreliable docks, unreliable dongles, and just an overall pain in ass experience. I won't recommend them to anyone anymore.egbert wrote:Which Surface Pro is flaky? V3 works well in my experience.

For me it was Surface 2015: good bye iPad. I absolutely loved the iPad and used it for music a ton. But my main need is for live use and it wasn't able to fulfill my specific needs. When it came time last year to think about upgrading to a new iPad (I have the 4), I also realized to do what I need will require a Mac/Windows OS, but Mac OS is not on a tablet, so I went with Windows and bought the Surface Pro 3. It has been terrific!
I am so happy with the purchase and my decision. It has been filling exactly the role I had wanted. Mainly, I need multi-timbral ability and use of multiple MIDI channels. I mainly use Alchemy Desktop (my favorite iPad synth), Synthmaster (I bought this since I so enjoyed the iPad version), and Omnisphere. I am able to use multiple instances of these, layer them, assign MIDI channels, etc., that I could not do with the iPad.
Sure, the apps aren't necessarily very touch-friendly, which may be an issue for some, but I can always use a mouse. For me, it's more the high resolution making some GUI tiny. Since I use a controller keyboard, my need for touch input was not necessary, though if that's important, I can definitely see the iPad the big winner here. The one real issue I have is with the single USB port. I will use a hub if I need to, but I do find it a slight hassle having the one port.
