Lucky for me, Hive was very stable. But it was a bit of a CPU hog compared to some of the other recent synths for some reason. My CPU was pretty much pegged with the 51 instances + the other plugins. Usually I'll be around 50% with the other synths we've had lately...
Would be interessting if this depends to DAW. I use Reaper 4.731 and I have an i7 quadcore, running WinXP. My 31 instances uses 45%CPU at max and over the hole song 36% in avarage. The RAM usage was only 750MB. I use Reaper since a few month and I have the feeling, that I do not see so much CPU usage as in my Cubase 5 Essential before.
Yeah me too P. Maybe it has to do with how many voices/unison etc. because I found the resource usage so low I honestly thought something was broken.

Most of my patches were single OSCs passing through (usually) both filters.

Edit: I feel compelled to make the point that choosing FX plugins wisely also makes a huge difference.

Hm, I think the problem lies probably simply in the fact that my computer is a bit over the hill. Plus its got a nasty virus on it that I can't get rid off. I'll be buying a new machine soon though.

15th of the month. Plenty of time. Do give a good listen to the tracks, though.

And I allready know who the winner is!
It is Urs. :tu:

Because what can be better like when you are a VSTi-developer and the OSC is running your synth in such a challenge! Listen to all the tracks gives one the feeling that one needs no other synth than Hive to make any kind of sounds. The variety is hugh this time.

And voting was harder than usual, because so many tracks sound so great. Good job guys :tu:
So I had to be more tight for giving high points. Many of the 3 or 4 would get 4 or 5 in other OSCs.

Hey this is very hard ... so many very good tracks.

What I have done to try to get some "finesse" into my voting is drop my track in 1, and then used the 2-5 for everyone else. Please please don't be offended by a low score from me - all it means is that in my opinion it's just slightly lower than another track. This is not to say that in another OSC the track could easily been a 5! We could easily end up with 20 tracks with very high scores this time round - if not more. The scores are just for THIS OSC and the gazillions of good tracks in it.

Sound design from everyone was top notch - shows what a good and intuitive synth this has turned out to be.

I was frankly pleased to hear a huge huge variety of genres here - given that I suspect the main use of the synth will be EDM - and very good it is at making just the right sounds for that.

Good luck to everyone - and once again, DO NOT be offended by a low score, that is those with 3 and 2!

I have VOTED, but will revisit and maybe refine the list between now and the deadline. I like others have been listening to the tracks as they were posted, commented and made a mental note of where I think the track could lie in the grand scheme of things.

To me, this is something really funny about this community. A synth that is supposedly meant for EDM and the people here think :"Oh yeah? Look what I'm gonna do with your precious "EDM" synth!!" :D
But I guess the dev won't worry about that at all :)

Agree, it looks like the only Hive is enough to create about any kind of music. Another great creation (after recent Bazille) from Urs :tu:

I agree, I think urs will be very proud of the amazing different styles of music that will be created using this synth.

As I hinted above, I am sure he will be. :tu: I guess he will be reading this board to see what we have done to his synth :hihi: , so maybe he'll comment - I was really pleasantly surprised by the diversity, and also how good they all are!

Urs are you there :?: :?:
