One Synth Challenge #80: MUX by MuTools (Voting Over, preliminary results in)

Okay, I downloaded and installed SPAN but I'm having trouble interpreting what I'm seeing. I put it on the master track and solo'd the two tracks I'm interested in one is a vocal and one is an ARP. It looks like the vocal peaks around 1K (is that about normal?) so should I EQ out the ARP around that frequency? Right now I can hear the vocal fine over the ARP but I don't know if that's more to do with the volume level or something else. I guess I can cut the ARP frequency around 1K and see what happens. This non desctructive editing is really nice to have. Much better than the old days.
Anyway, thanks for the Voxengo suggestion. Completely forgot about them.

I have my Span setupto take two signals and compare them. Can't really explain how I did this but it has to be on the net or tubepsmacmur wrote:Personally, I put SPAN or my DAW's frequency spectrum meter on the master, open it up, and then solo each track, looking to see where it's peaking. Within a given range, I'll generally only have 2-3 tracks that heavily overlap, so switching back & forth isn't so bad. Hypothetically, there could be a meter that took multiple inputs and graphed each with a different colour... but I don't know of any offhand.
Edit: found it!

Hi Steven, wagtunes wrote:I wonder if somebody can help me out. It's for future OSCs as well as my own use.
Essentially, what I want this utility to do is show me the frequency of each track together, like my FabFilter EQ does, so I can then do the editing at the right spot.
Preferably, a free utility if it exists.
Here's a little interactive webby app which helps get instrumentation sorted in your mind ...

Enjoy and use,

Not much time to explain the details, but take it one step at a time, and experiment with what works best. I think a cut at 1k on the arp could be a good idea, but see what works best. Sometimes you don't know that the eq helped until you have like a bunch of layers clashing.wagtunes wrote:Okay, I downloaded and installed SPAN but I'm having trouble interpreting what I'm seeing. I finally finished off my track that I have been tinkering with for a few weeks. Nothing like a deadline to get you to finish tracks off
This is my first Soundcloud upload and OSC entry, which was a lot of fun to create.
https://soundcloud.com/7angram/into-the-void
I used Reaper 4 with 9 instances of the MUX vst. All fx are from MUX except for a ReaQ on each track and a couple of JS stereo width. The master track uses Ferric TDS, SlickEQ and Limiter No.6. Oh, yeah and the MUX does rock indeed! I do actually own it and Mulab, but have mainly only ever used it for it's Mudrum, so it was good to get a chance to play with it ...the synths sounds are incredible

Now, I know this is a little bizarre, but today I may start making a tune. I have been programming this whole month, making my first vsti, which is quite an enterprise. It's just been so exciting, that I couldn't detach myself from it. Now I realize how late it is...but still, I'd love to contribute a piece.
I think, it's also a little bit because I feel like I'm too close to MUX...a tiny little bit like an unfair advantage, maybe, but at the end this would merely be a silly excuse.
On the flipside, though, what I'm doing right now (my synth) is- hopefully- for a future OSC! This thing is getting CRAZY!
Anyway, I had to write something here now that I thought about this special OSC again...
PS: I am thoroughly impressed with Wag's tune! Great Job!

Nice! I also started on my own VSTi a while back, but life happened and I ran out of free time.Taron wrote:I have been programming this whole month, making my first vsti, which is quite an enterprise. ... This thing is getting CRAZY!

Thanks Taron. I worked very hard on it and had a lot of help.Taron wrote:Now, I know this is a little bizarre, but today I may start making a tune. Hello all. I hope I didn't miss anything, this is my first OSC (and 2nd published work):
https://soundcloud.com/creeper-vs/strange-tides
15 Instances of MUX in FL Studio with a bit of compression from native plugins. 1 instance of Melda Bandpass filter, and one of Melda StereoExpander, though I do not think it did much. I just see it was still enabled. I think there are 2 presets still intact in there, in particular the digeredoo drone. The rest I opened up and messed with. I found the ability to just add something like a chorus, or an ADSR Envelope where I wanted one really fun. I was able to turn a Bells preset into some nice strings with a bit of fiddling. I hope you enjoy the results as much as I enjoyed the effort.

Not like mine looks a whole lot better right now, hahaha...
(Don't worry, this is just the laboratory like state it's in! I'll sort it all out, probably make it bigger, too.)

My entry this month:
https://soundcloud.com/ontrackp/ontrackp-muxed-up
MUX is awesome. I used 18 instances for this track. I spent a few days building a big synth which I used for all the sounds except for two (presets HiHat708 and Analog Lead 2). That part was a lot of fun. I wish I could have used my regular DAW (Logic) but had to use MuLab. Recording the track in MuLab was a challenge but it got easier as I got used to it. Mixing the track in MuLab was difficult.
I used Molot, DCAM FreeComp and various Melda Productions efx in various racks and Limiter 6 on the mix.

How do I automate the AIPS rate for the polysynth, or maybe just assign this parameter to a modwheel?
