WOW! Jeff - awesome! Your vocals are superb, what a blast of a song! I am still grinning
. How did you do the BGV's? Is that your voice pumped through DecaBuddy with the "sexy backup singer chick" formant cranked up to 110%???
My pick of the entries so far - outstanding.
And who said the quality of this month was bad? Gimme a break!, I'd burn at least 6-8 songs onto a CD from this lot.

Thanks so much nikp2000Bearded One' You do a great job of capturing a fusion feel and sound with your drums. Great jazz-rock fusion tune.

Thanks Bagungie! I've got some more in the pipe that I hope you will also like.Beardedone wrote:
For crying out loud. What the hell is jaath?
It's good to see that you've caught on quick about the jaath thing,(that is according to your serious attempt at sounding that way in this month's comp)..
Man alive! my ears were smokinnnn' after that 1 minute and 59 seconds!!
Actually Beardedone, I really enjoyed what you've done, and I'll be checking out your 'site for more!
Regards,
Bagungie

more reviews
earthtones Good synth pop tune. I like the vocals. Good arrangement.
lady j At long last! Very 80's. The vocoded vocals are cool.
elbaggio Niice trippy countrified piece. The flute patch sounds like Canned Heat's 'Goin' up the country'
mystahr Good buildup. Nice choice of sounds.
glooper Nice rhythm guitar work. Nice strings at end.
dave spiers smokey tugger jaath at its best. love the finger snaps. I need a beret.
tristeza orange I though this was going to be a free form athmospheric song, and then it became a sweet piece of synth candy! I like the vocaloid pads at the end
andreas ehrhardt Nice textures, but the mellotron drowns out the rest of the mix when it enters.
plunge Nice vocals and lyrics. Nice jazzy arrangement. Very cool tune. Good bass tone. Real or synth? Sounds real to me.
jebudas Dark and athmospheric. Soundtrack from a future war.
thomas christenson Nice oddball pop tune. I like the arrangement and your choice of instrumentation. Except the sax. The sax patch could have better.
knockman Real nice song. Very cabaret. Quirky arrangement, but it works.
sonic six Nice sonic wash. Needs a little more variety.
system era Nice vocals. Nice drums. Good song

OK Cheeso - You asked for it
..........
Nice stringy type sounds, and some interesting textures but - a little plain as far as overal sonic variety goes. Song-wise it doesn't really do much as far as a progression either but I guess that's a bit inherent to ambient eh?
Overall it didn't really move me anywhere, but this type of stuff always needs visuals for me. Not bad for a first entry though - so keep at it

Thank you for your kind words! But *arrgghh*. I don't use a sax patch. Would never use a sax patch. It's cheesy (IMHO). The sound your refering to as a bad sax is actually a melodica played with great sensitivity and then you come and *sob* and say *sob*nikp2000 wrote: thomas christenson Nice oddball pop tune. If the tune made you smile then my mission is accomplished.
The BGV's are basically what I jokingly call my "4x4" method. A 4 part harmony sang 4 times on each part, with one of each panned in groups to 4 different places in the spectrum. Add a little LA2A compression and Dreamverb and that's it.
Deccabuddy sounds kind of interesting! What is it exactly?
Thanks again,
Jeff

Decabuddy: http://www.akaipro.com/int/plugs/dbuddy.html
It can do your 4-part harmony in one pass and in perfect pitch. Run four instances of it panned around and you'd only ever have to sing your melody line in the chorus.
I used it on a gospel track I did earlier this year and ended up creating a southern gospel choir with 100 voices in my chorus!

Thanks to everyone who has reviewed my track [and thanks to everyone else too, while I'm at it!
] - your comments made me proud of my little track.
Especially that comparison with Prefab Sprout. They have been a particular favourite of mine since I discovered them about a year and a half ago - 'Jordan: The Comeback' is playing as I'm writing this.
