As it supports MPE, just get one of the tools that apply the necessary pitch bend values (until Peter got time to implement eventually oddsound… )

Just purchased Novum - it's EXCELLENT for processing field recordings. Turning old samples of my field recordings into new material for running through Renoise. Nice work!
Looking forward to seeing new additions to your synths - will you be adding FM to Novum as you did with Abyss, or adding more granular options? Lots of neat sound design stuff can already be done, just excited to see what else is in store

* Novum comes as VST3 and AU
* you can (of course!) import your own samples
* there will be a 90 days trial - without any limitation
* yes, there will be an intro offer, and a special loyalty discount for Abyss users
* release will be 18th of June via tracktion.com
Some Features:
* granular engine with 6 layers
* Novum can take one sample and break it into 6 layers
* each layer is represented as a "tone colour" (a mostly stationary sound) and an envelope
* play all 6 layers at the same time and you get your original sample exactly back
* you can exchange tone colours and envelopes from other samples, simply via drag and drop
* the "Timbre Flower" offers spectral variations of the tone colours
* HOMOGENIZE turns tone-colours into organic, velvet like sound, eg perfect for pads
* comb filter and the obligatory "analog" modelled filter (ladder style)
* unique SYNTIFY allows to add harmonics
* Unlike normal saturation/ distortion this pushes the waveforms towards sawtooth
* Its a bit like PD in the Casio CZ synths, but here it works on samples
Novum comes with about 300 patches, made by artists like Databroth, Tomavatars (hey Tom, thx for the awesome video, you should make an entire album only using the Amen break!?) or Yuli Yolo.

Great synth. I only ran into 1 Reaper crash when trying to play the Ukraine Preset.
The Choir presets are my favs. I could easily make some Moby-esque presets with those.
Best synth purchase in 2022. Keep up the good work.

Have posted a feature request here.
(CLAP version of Novum including polyphonic modulation but without all those internal mod sources - I'd like to add Bitwig's modulators instead)
Can someone tell the developer?

Why don’t you write directly to Peter? There is a contact on his web site…
First we need a CLAP version of Novum, then it can be enhanced…

a preemptive spectral/granular strike? or just sound brut? structured, but Novum, 3 times with MPE, and well for more info read the description; neurotic behavior in a structural environment... a cockpit...

Folks, where in the world of granular synth would you place Novum?
Like for example:
Pigments has a double granular engine (dunno how that ranks with the 6 layers of Novum, sounds like a different concept?), then Audio Damages Quanta I see also lauded among ambient folks as well.

I don't think there's a clean, nonsubjective answer to any of these types of questions.LKBorg wrote: Tue Jul 05, 2022 11:59 pm Folks, where in the world of granular synth would you place Novum?

So my subjective answer, which only works for me is:
PeterV of Dawesome introduced a refreshing take on sound synthesis. It appeals to me. Abyss and Novum helped me to get some creative spark back.
If it (whatever it is) works for you, it does. Run with it. See where it takes you. Enjoy the ride. Learn all the stuffs. That's all that matters.
We shall see orchestral machines with a thousand new sounds, with thousands of new euphonies, as opposed to the present day's simple sounds of strings, brass, and woodwinds. -- George Antheil, circa 1925 ---

IMHO: The primary differentiator for Novum is the sample processing which breaks the sample into 6 separate spectral sub-samples. Each of those can have a separate granular synthesis set up. Excluding the details, the granular and synth functionality is similar to granular as we know it. But the processing into 6 separate sonically related samples allows for a whole other dimension of sound design over simple granular (eg. Quanta). Other synths have a variation of the usual granular but Novum takes things further with the spectral processing.LKBorg wrote: Tue Jul 05, 2022 11:59 pm Folks, where in the world of granular synth would you place Novum?
