Doubt they will rewrite the Absynth code inside out for Reaktor, rather porting it to Arm, do some optimization fixes and add a better browser for patches, me thinks.
NI does not have Sw plugins by subscription only.
I suspect this is the last Absynth but at least it will be maintained so it will not break with future OS versions.

Hahahahahaha no but that Kontakt one is a freaking hilarious idea. There would be actual riotsKalamata Kid wrote: Sat Dec 06, 2025 12:14 am Is it possible that Absynth 6 will be released as a Kontakt or Reaktor instrument?

Naa I think most of us ran out of energy for riots over NI's bad behavior years ago. All that energy is just spent finding new brands now, not riots.JasonSpatola wrote: Sat Dec 06, 2025 12:34 amHahahahahaha no but that Kontakt one is a freaking hilarious idea. I'm OK with that. The constant need to upgrade software is just for cash grabs, give me compatibility with modern chips and OS's and I'm good. I'm not a fan of upgraded versions that do not replace the older version in your DAW, having to have theoretically 8 versions of Kontakt etc.ksandvik wrote: Sat Dec 06, 2025 12:24 am I suspect this is the last Absynth but at least it will be maintained so it will not break with future OS versions.
I think it's weird we worship old hardware to the point to where "modern" solutions are frowned upon to the point that Moog released a Minimoog "Old School" Voyager with no patches etc. People pay for 30+ year old hardware but with software it's almost impossible for a company to convince people to buy "old" but updated for modern DAWs and OS's software plugins.

Or, its like trying to run Cakewalk for Windows 3.1 on Windows 11. Oh wait, that's not possible either. Can't run Win16 apps on Windows 11 without emulation.EvilDragon wrote: Fri Dec 05, 2025 10:39 pm But try to run a program from 1997 on most recent macOS and you won't be able to, unless you're going to use virtual machines. That's the sort of backwards compatibility we're usually talking about, and Apple is not providing that.
Thats a ridiculous ask for backward compatibility (Mac or Windows). How would one expect to run a System 9 app written for PowerPC on a modern Mac? The OS changed twenty-five years ago as well as two CPU architectures.

Looks like the release of Absynth 6 will be on
Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at 9AM EST.
Can you imagine if they had said the release would be in six months?
What does one do during those months?
Go Crazy?

Aww how cute...you "spoke to Brian" yourself. I'm sure you did. I've seen the video I think you're referring to and frankly you seem to have a different take of "how unhappy he was" than I do. He thanks them. Says 22 years was a pretty good run. If they had wanted to update he'd have dropped everything and worked on it. He's sad (at the time of the video - fall of 2022) that didn't happen. Well...three years later here we are "milkman" person.Milkman wrote: Fri Dec 05, 2025 11:36 pm <yawn> ignored. Im not here for this. I spoke to Brian myself, and he published a video that you can watch on the subject(to do with how unhappy he was with this decision). Im not confused about any aspect of this, and the phases(dates) of NI laying off personnel to look profitable, then becoming acquired by PE, are less important to me than what happened in the end.
Hardware = the Personal Computer. Hope that helps.
And FWIW "Milkman" I've been on this board longer than you have. Unfortunately lost my old account due to losing access to an email account about 4 years ago.

Not really understanding the controversy but I did install Cakewalk Pro Audio 6 (so... A couple years before System 9 - also thanks archive.org) on a Windows PC earlier this year to groove out to all those Ivan MIDIs from back in the day.DashOfLime wrote: Sat Dec 06, 2025 1:46 amOr, its like trying to run Cakewalk for Windows 3.1 on Windows 11. Cakewalk Pro Audio 6 is a win32 app for Windows 95. But yes you're right....1997 Mac would have been System 7/8, not 9.JasonSpatola wrote: Sat Dec 06, 2025 2:00 amNot really understanding the controversy but I did install Cakewalk Pro Audio 6 (so... I think over the past decade or so there have been some pretty solid reasons for wanting updates. Higher res screens and resizability being the top one, but also formats (vst3 or apple silicone). Plus quite a few have added mpe. But I think we’ve gotten to the point where most necessary tech upgrades have happened. I mean once UIs are resizable then we no longer will have to deal with older plugins disappearing on our screens and wishing they would get an update.machinesworking wrote: Sat Dec 06, 2025 12:41 amI'm OK with that. I am surprised that multitouch screen compatibility isn’t a bigger deal. When I was on windows I had a great touch screen on an extendable arm, and with certain plugins it was like using an iPad synth but an a bigger screen. Pretty good experience paired with a few knobs when you need the physical feel (or even just the one surface dial did the trick). But while many plugins worked great, many still don’t. Maybe when apple introduces touch screen capabilities in macOS it will be slightly more popular. Who knows. But I think every plugin should basically aim to at some point be multitouch compatible, more compatible and resizable. And that’s pretty darn future proofed, aside from chips plugin format updates.

Brian called me just now and asked if I’d be his best friend. I had to say no, as I’m not taking on new friends at this time.DashOfLime wrote: Sat Dec 06, 2025 1:56 amAww how cute...you "spoke to Brian" yourself. I'm sure you did. Eh? I didn't say that? You probably forgot to delete my name from the quote and inadvertently quoted yourself I'm guessing.
