Well considering they need to work to be able to eat and pay for shelter....
I think there is more under the hood than just getting them gigs.
Music is essential.
gibson guitars are not...

Can't believe all ya'll are tuning in here so quick-like.... :)

I understand Wolpey's concerns, but we need to move our excellent product toward a cause, and though there might be more urgent needs, our small contributions can at least account for something..

It's not difficult to imagine that even the smallest help to a fellow muso -- one who makes his bread by playing his instrument -- is a worthy cause indeed... Am I wrong about this??

Cheers,
AJ

Look -- I KNOW I'm an asshole, but let's put our personal things aside for a moment and get an agreement on a forward path here. We made AN AWESOME 2-CD Set. Let's make it count for something more specific than a new limo for the politicians... yeah?

Ya'll are my bros in music so that's why I am asking about it... I have SHYTE to gain from any of this other than to see that something wonderful we all helped to create is used toward the good purpose we intended it.. yeah? FUCKIN HELL I gave up me place on the CD to make this work... so I AM NOT about to see it die... capice??

A good quality instrument is as essential for a working musician as a good set of tools is for a working mechanic.. and probably less expensive.

@xander

easy man. :scared: i was just giving my 2 cents.
as i said, you do what you want.
i know my voice doesn't count much, it's up to those who made this project work. ;)

@IIRs

no need to argue further. my opinion has been offered, i can go now.

This makes sense to me and it's not coz I like the Edge. I used to bully him in school and I'm sure he still resents me for it. But he just made me so mad and I.....

Sorry lost track there for a second.

The point is Chrys was a relatively small effort by a small group of musicians using a small managable method. I'm fundamentally against Charity ( !!!!Change not Charity!!!!!) and prefer the money moving onto another small group of musicians who have then the option of doing somthing similar.

New Orleans is famous for it's music. If you are going to put money into something that you hope will generate more money then it makes good sense to INVEST in a product we know, love and trust.

Okay, folks. Then we need to sell more CDs because after donating most of what we already earned we have about $150 left...

I suggest we just give it all to Habitat for Humanity instead of splitting with Red Cross - put a message on the main katrinareliefcd.com page pointing to the news article referenced above about the Red Cross shenanigans and then go.

But we have *already* donated $750 to Red Cross...

good idea, simple and sensible 8)

As I said -- I thought most had abandoned this thread... Thanks Rob (TB) and Paul (Manytone) and everyone... I agree...

Techbot -- we must have gone to the same school -- I dinna pay attention before to the fact before that you're Irish mate.. :hihi:

I LOVE Wolpeka -- so what he says counts here... It's all about getting a consensus from EVERYONE who contributed...

BUT I think the U2 effort is a worthy cause because I am dismayed (after monitoring all the Katrina Charity Efforts) with the RED CROSS and so I have sought sommat that is way righteous for us all that gives us surity...

I think we are all well served by joinng the U2 effort... But I am ready to take all opinions on-board for vote and consideration -- and if there are any different opinions as to whom the donations should go, can you please submit the name(s) of the charity here? I/We are all anxious to make this work the best way it can!!

If Freeztar is still watching....

Keith,

Next month, I will be in Florida, (actually coming through Atlanta on 4/13 pretty late) and I will be not too far from Relevant magazine HQ in Orlando.

Relevant is a Christian magazine focused on being relevant to the world - it's culture, crises, character, etc. They feature articles on how to be socially responsible and a Christian at the same time - also have excellent music reviews (I found out about Sigur Ros by reading that magazine). Readership is made up of like-minded individuals similar to our effort here (not all are Christians but do care what goes on in the world) and I think their circulation is in the tens of thousands.

I'm a subscriber and also pay for subscriptions for my pastor of my church and for my brother-in-law, a worship pastor that leaves near me.

If you have any of the left-over extra copies, I promise to get one to Relevant magazine in person. No guarantee that it will make it into the magazine, but we can hope.

I've checked on the Phantom Tollbooth review ( www.tollbooth.org ) and the critic is still reviewing the CD.

If you want to check out Relevant magazine on-line, here's the web address:
http://www.relevantmagazine.com/

pm me if you can send me one or if you want to get together late 4/13 (I'll have me entire family with me - wife and 4 kids, and perhaps my cousin who lives in Hotlanta).

Agreed -- But the U2 effort would also give us greater exposure (and sales)...

Be that as it may, I am happy to abide by the majority KVR opinion...

I wouldn't mind supporting the U2 idea.

what part of the Les paul makes it a quality instrument? The assembly line construction? The antiquated P.A.F. humbuckers? The average neck? (as in there's no magic there, just a neck) The crap stop bar tail piece? (you get more sustain having the strings coming through the back of the body) The cheesy stamped out machineheads with tons of backlash? The volume and tone knobs being far enough away, but the switch between all the way across the guitar? (Speaking of those eletronics, do you think they are top quality or whatever they got the best deal on?) Or the bragging rights of the name?

Yeah I know they offer many fine woods...but not nearly as many as Warmoth.

I know we've been here before...lol
