I'm with Hovmod. The charity will have to be non-religious for me to donate a track.. :(

You'd never guess that from your sig IIRs. :hihi:

I'm an atheist myself but can see a lot of good in most religious movements regardless of their overall motives. I vote for the Red Cross in this case though.

Analogue or digital – which is better? There's only one way to find out... FI-I-IGHT!!!

I wondered just how long it would take before this came up.

So the choice is between a secular bureaucracy that has had problems channeling its resources to where they need to go and an evangelical religious movement engaged in social services offering aid without regard to race, age, sex, creed, or condition.

From what I've seen, and I'm no expert on this--nor am I a follower of any religion--the Salvation Army is attempting to spread their religious beliefs through the practice of acts of love, kindness and humanitarian assistance. That doesn't seem so bad to me. Read their web page and, yeah, they're against abortion and think homosexuality is not sanctioned by God, blah, blah, blah . . . but those beliefs are present in almost all religions. Would you object so much if the Salvation Army were a Buddhist orgainization?

BTW, I'm merely asking questions and pointing out my observations, not trying to start a big debate. I don't really care which organization we donate to.

Anyway . . . Most of what the Salvation Army believes in--as far as how humans should behave--is exactly what Tibetan Buddhism teaches, and probably Judaism and Islam. I don't see the Salvation Army backing the revisionist policies of the Born Again Neo-Con movement and I don't find them particularly offensive.

Still . . . I can understand wanting to keep the donations secular from a sales point of view. Giving to an overtly Christian organization may make it seem we all adhere to their spiritual teachings.

Good points emdot. I feel pretty much the same as you. Others are quite turned of by the army though, so it doesn't seem like such a good choice. The goal is to sell a lot, so whatever organization will allow us to do that should be the route we pursue. (Of course they must be good and effective)
Mystahr mentioned Habitat for Humanity. Anyone have any experience with them?
Any other suggestions?

Habitat For Humanity is an EXCELLENT idea! They are one of the organizations that the corporation I work for sponsors . . . so if we chose that I might actually be able to leverage a little extra marketing power out of our internal communiciations machine. Though I can't promise anything with that.

Does anyone know if HFH is working in the gulf directly right now? I LOVE that foundation, but wouldn't want to think about using it if it wasn't involved that much right now. Red Cross is always a viable option.

Habitat for Humanity is the most effective Christian-based charity organization I'm familiar with. They put their religious beliefs directly into action, with excellent results. Even a "secular Jew" like me can support them whole-heartedly.

But I have no info about what they're doing now/will be doing in the future in the Gulf Coast area. Knowing their effectiveness, I don't doubt that they will be active.

from the hfh website:
We are not sending volunteers to the affected areas at this time. Right now, it is critical for first responders and relief organizations to get to the storm-affected areas for search-and-rescue operations. After the immediate relief phase is completed, your help will be greatly appreciated as we move forward to meet the long-term housing needs of the communities affected by Hurricane Katrina.

*nod* Thanks, bluedad. Kinda what I figured. Cleanup first, rebuilding later. I'll earmark some of my future income (which is hypothetical but likely) for Habitat.

Ok, here's a VERY rough mix of my song, just to give you an idea. The vocals are quite low due to the mixing environment, but that will change. Maybe take a bit of bass out when you listen. It's called "Till The Clouds Roll Away"

Let me know what you think!

I made a quick banner so we at least have something for right now. My brother is good at flash and he agreed to do one, but he can't get to it until at least the weekend.

Very simple, and yet it's all that is needed. I like it. I'll add it to my site. Of course, I have to upload my new site before I do. But I will add it.

Allen, I think you have a ton of talent with words. Very nice. I just happen to be a strong Bush supporter. But no harm. This isn't a political forum. Your opinion is as important as mine or anyone elses'. I do commend you for taking out your frustration and showing such emotion. Music is the best way of doing so.

I actually do like the track. I don't know whether anyone will find it innapropriate or not. I won't be the one to say yay or nay. Thank you for your track.

Hey, you live in Atlanta. I'm here just north of you in Nashville. I know several hip-hop/rap artists here and also producers who are thinking of going there. Maybe you could hook up. That seems to be where the rap scene is at right now.
