ahh, yes, thats what i had to learn also ...martian wrote:ive had another go with AA, and i think im getting some pretty pleasing results on drums now, just have to slightly let go of what i was trying to achieve and see what it can do in its own right.
allthough the parameters are pretty much the same on aar as on other reverbs, they simply sound different ...
f.e. when i was using reverb in earlier days, what was what i did at first?
100% diffusion, 100% density ...
i did this simply because of the fact, that the units i used allways sounded bad (or not so good) with density low and/or diffusion low ...
in the aar i really come on this because of tweakin just for fun ... man was i stunned about the room info that is added on the same tail, when lowering diffusion! then i also noticed that the er's are heavily influenced by the spread parameter ... one can clearly hear the room information changing drastically when raising spread ... and so on ...
yeah, we can never learn enough ...

Yes, I noticed that as well. I was not happy with the reverb sound on some metal hit percussion and I started just playing with different parameters and only listening to the sound, and not thinking about what it is supposed to do. Then I was surprised to find results I was happy with at settings I had not tried the first couple months I had AAR.
Density, diffusion, spread and combined with the different reverb types give more than expected variety and character. Now with a few minutes tweeking, I find some settings that just sort of hit the sweet spot for that particular music.

I like this song!JeffSanders wrote:Great song, brok. Here's another mix using the AA on acoustic guitars, vocal and a little synth...

Cheers!

PS. A little mixing/production tip: When the song goes more "heavy" or "dense", that is, it has more elements added then fading in/automating a larger reverb (longer decay too) for the drums helps the whole song sound bigger and more dynamic. Now the drums on this song remind me of the cathastrophic, non-existent, drum ambience of Metallica's Justice for All album.
In the beginning of the song the drums work very well when they are dry but later in the song when it's more crowded they sound a bit out of place somehow.
Just my 2 cents..

Totally OT, but I'd like to hear more songs of yours, Jeff!
And yes, AAR is working just fine on acoustic guitars.

Sorry to dig this thread up, but just for you ambient heads, here is an longish washy reverb patch I lashed up in an attempt to clone brok lander's AAR long_reverb.mp3.
brok's AAR long reverb
kilroy's long reverb
If anyone can guess what this was done on I will be stunned.

Long long time a go, in a galaxy far far away, I seem to remember making similar sounds with Waves Trueverb.kilroy wrote:If anyone can guess what this was done on I will be stunned.

yes, that will still take a while ... they seem to finish the album in about 2-3 months ...el-folie wrote:Hey Brok, any chance we can hear your famous "long reverb example" from the 224, or is it still in use for the album recording? I'll be patient then...

warren wrote:Well I fired up wizooverb and ran the file through it. I had no problems matching density and spread, but no matter how I tweaked it I couldn't get it to sound as good as his 'long reverb' clip.
wizooverb is the killer of the cpu resource.but the sound is very good!if work in the Impulse Response of lexicon,it will be the best of vst-reverb-plugin;
so i use sir,it is the same editers of wizooverb.it is very good reverb-plugin.
Dynamic is improtant than the loudness.
