Thanks to Echo, Max, Core, MaliceX, Advaya and Gag3 for their reviews. Of course I appreciate the compliments - I agree with Nils_B, musicians thrive on applause.

But we grow with the comments of those with more critical ears, too. Malice, you're right, I was concerned with the loudness issue. I'm trying to get as much without compression as I can, and then just top it off, but I think I sacrificed some musicality on this one. And Advaya, I worked and worried about the trumpet ASDR, and if I had had more time to invest, may have been able to clean it up more, but there was no way. As it is, I should be working instead of posting this.

No reviews this month, but as always there's some great stuff out there. As I listened to the original files, I couldn't imagine what would come out of this, but one should never underestimate the creativity of the patrons in this café.

Who's starting rumours about me being professional? I think the quality of my music clearly says: I'm as amateur as they come. :P
Ah Scoops, you are pretty humble [humble humble humble - the sound of his voice bounces off marble walls until it is only a mystic's whimper], but ever more tricky.

Thence, my reviews are feeble. Mislead, I am sorry. She was such a pretty deed. But without form and spirit.

Echo, your music reflects a true talent. Being yourself is a gift. It saves men from the fall of a drawn curtain. No one will ever look narrowly upon you.

Scoops stinks like butt poop.

Okay, I wasn't going to say anything, but American domestic beer is awful. The Germans will back me up on this one. You could have used quotes from Mahler and been much more effective;-)

It was my only critical thought. You are awesome.

Two comments about that colorful quip:

A. What other kind is there? :?

B. Everyone will stink like butt poo if you're sticking your nose where it doesn't belong...

Unless I'm out of touch with some funhearted ribbing going on between the two of you, this comment just sounds childish - and... are you implying that Scoops IS Echo under another login?

OK, now I'm really out of touch cause contextually that made no sense to me whatsoever.

You OK gag3?

Where to start???,,,

Okay, I apologize for calling Scoops a stinky name. I figure he has a pretty stable view of the world, and I probably don't need to worry about banters, but, just in case.... Scoops, you are really a good, talented musician, who probably doesn't stink too much like butt poop unless you are actually in the act of pooping.

Next on the list: me109 did a great version of the "Beer Barrel Poka" using extensive quotes from Aaron Copland, a famous "American" composer. I was just joking around about American beer being inferior to German beer, and said that me109 should have used a German composer's music to quote from.

Now, I don't see any big dudes in white jackets holding restraints, so, I think that I am okay [at least for now:-)]

I listened to his piece and, although I could be wrong, I heard more Gershwin there than Copland.

Did I miss something?

Either way, the American beer comment is still valid. :hihi:

Ooops, you are right.

At least i got the country right [knock on the door, gag3 looks out window and sees two very large men in white holding leather straps. gag3 gasps]

This could be the end....

Another batch coming right up...

ianweb123: MikeLeftField - Really interesting sounds at the outset that create a nice tense environment that resolves around the :55 mark. Really unique use of bagpipes (sounds like bagpipes anyway). It seemed to lack motion for me and the fade out didn't really time well, but the mix of sounds was really neat.

Laguna Rising: Wanton Exaggeration - Really cool rendition. I really like the overall drive of the piece but the snare was a little too busy for me in spots. The chord splashes around :50 are nice, maybe a bit more sfz attack. Nice change of pace around 1:40. This thing kept my interest from beginning to end. Great work!

knockman: Frogs - What a cool melody! I will never be able to order frog legs again. There is a very nice base here but 2 minutes was hardly enough time for this. Maybe some variance in sounds in the second verse or some more motion via drums would have helped, but a nice effort all in all.

napalmbob: Decisive Heartache - Really cool beginning. Would have loved to hear this thing continuie to build to the end with more percussion and a few new voices every 8 bars or move the lead synth around more in the stereo field. Can't keep my feet still during this one, great groove!

oddbods finger: I Got No Time - I've got no time to say anything about this other than..to quote Jack Nicholson..."Where does he get all those wonderful toys?" Fantastic!

kundara: DrumNJazz - This thing falls into a great groove right away. I really like the drum sound choices and I dig the piano around the 1:10 point forward although I might consider doubling an octave higher so it speaks even more. I would love to hear more of this!

me109: Rhapsody in Beer - Step right up for a little Beershwin! Beertender give me another bar and all that rot. Wonderful segues from section to section and fantastic blending of the intricacies of each tune! A keeper!

nikp2000: Into Night - Nice swirling ambient sounds here. Enjoyed the understated guitar at the beginning and again after 1:25.

rachmiel: Sci-Fi Polka - Damn it, Jim, I'm a doctor not a bartender! Another nice soundscape. This could accompany a movie scene of R2D2 after a few hours at the pub. Another fun take on the Beer Barrel!

I had to laugh when I read this.
So I thought I would write a translation of what this really means :hihi:

Man, just listened to this. Got so depressed cuz it's so good, that I started to drink heavily.
Did you know that German beers kick ass on American Beers (hic-up :drunk:) I wish I could do something like that, but I just farted, and I got a stinky butt. (hic-up :drunk:) Connnngraadulations Scoops. Well done (hic-up :drunk:)
.

I hope this clears things up

Thank you all for the interesting reviews of my bit..
The last time I tried something along the folky ethnic lines it ended up 7+ minutes long so I was really struggling to fit it into the 2 minute mark, (and it shows :D )
I have really enjoyed listening to the other entries, I absolutely love hearing different interpretations on existing midi files, so this comp was right up my street.

I will genuinely endevour to vote this time, as well!!

Ah, the talent and gift of being myself. I also have a talent for breathing air, and I'm a decent touch-typist (for my purposes, anyway). :hihi:

Thanks for the kind words. I'm not entirely sure how they're intended, but I could always do with more people saying I have talent of some type.

It certainly seemed to read that way, but I'm pretty sure everyone knows that me and Mello are really just another of Hush's pseudonyms. I'm pretty sure that Scoops is one of only 5 nicks in this contest that isn't Hush in some way.
