I'm really looking forward to the release of this thing. Count me among the ones who will buy without the need of a demo. I'm sold on the audio examples alone. The price-point makes it a no brainer for me too.

Andy, does it acts as a soft-saturator if you push or overdrive the output ?
The led at the bottom of the gain reduction meter lights up to show you are are close to full scale digital on the output. It lights up dimly at first and then bright when you are at full scale. If the Peak Clip function is on the led lights up red and the signal is soft clipped and will drive if pushed hard. If the Peak Clip is off the led will light up amber and do nothing to the signal.

It's just a useful way to tell how much makeup to apply without cluttering the interface. I find it most useful with the Peak Clip on and you just start getting it to twinkle and shape off the highest peaks that get through the compressor. These peaks typically add nothing to the sound and I've made the Peak Clip shape nice and smooth while preserving as much linear range as possible before it starts.

Don't worry, I'll try to do some kind of deal organised to make things cheaper for guys that are twigged onto it like you! Either the first X number of customers or the first X amount of time, let me sit on it till the time of release.

I'd probably be another early adopter - all the demo's sound pretty good to me and I have two projects upcoming which would benefit from something like this.

Any chance of a circuit modeled version of the SSL E series channel strip next - really put Waves on the back foot ????........8)

Thanks Kenton. I'm still to decide the next project after this one, but thanks for you suggestion, I definitely plan on doing some nice eq's in the future, and some kind of channel strip would be cool too since I've not done a model of a noise gate yet. But first things first and I'll see how this compressor does.

Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote:In terms of what else is out there, my most recent experience with the hardware is tracking an EP where the Purple MC77 got some serious use prior to going to tape (snare, and vocal in particular) and compared to that the UAD version feels similar in terms of attack/release response but not in terms of the aggressive character of the actual unit. The BFD2 comp does this better (the distortion in Nuke mode rules). Native-wise there's not much else I can compare to an 1176. I'd say Stillwell's The Rocket is probably the next closest in that it gets that superfast attack down well, but something in the release of that one doesn't feel quite right to me (though I do keep meaning to try it out again). Shy of that, none of the Sonalksis comps sound anywhere near it, nor do any popular offerings like the ones from Fabfilter, Voxengo, Kjaerhus, etc. DDrummer's comps are excellent, but none are 1176-ish either.

So in terms of a non-dongled, affordable, aggressive and accurate 1176 clone, I don't think you'd have much competition at all. Especially when it comes to a straight emulation.
Thanks Mr Funkybot, I will definitely be doing an 1176ish plugin some time in the future if all goes with with The Glue, so I'll make sure I run it past you and let you compare it directly to the MC77 - and please be cruel with your opinion, even if you just have a vague feeling about it not sounding right I want to know :)

Andy, as another likely user, you should do a newsletter sign-up on your temp page for those of us who don't read KvR as much as we once did. I know, I know, I'll hear about it over at gearslutz and cakewalk and rekkerd... But I'm definitely eager for this...

I was mixing in BFD2 last night - damn that is some great signal processing in there. I love mixing in BFD2 and get such a great sound out of the comps and eqs. I'd love to bring some of that mojo to my busses.

As far as Im concerned - this is a done deal. The clear dedication that has been shown in Synthsquad and this thread can only mean its gonna be a stormer of a product compared to the rest of the market. Any intro offer would be the icing on a already saliva inducing cake.

I mean - if I knew your address Andy - I would consider constructing a paper aeroplane out of pound notes and throwing it over from my North London flat to where you are if it meant getting my hands on it sooner...

I'll pay $199 if I can have it now. :hihi:

Mmm, good idea regards the registration for news. I have a word press web page at the moment which supports user registration. I should get that up and running with a check box for "newsletter".

Glad you like the BFD2 effects and you're getting good use from them. If you like them hopefully you'll love The Glue as well.

Seriously, I would too. This plugin is a deal at twice the price.
