Roli: Equator 2 is here !

Equator is working fine in Bitwig on Win 10 here, but I admit I have not yet saved it in a project.

It's only a problem when saved in projects and reloading, if I we're you better be caution with using E2 in a big project. However I just managed to have it working properly again by signing out of Roli Connect and signing in again, but when restarting the PC it happens again. So everytime i Restart the PC I will have to sign out and sign into Roli Connect.
Weird stuff.

Oh no. I hope their authorization stuff isn’t going to be a pain. I’m already a little skeptical with this occasional license checking it supposedly is going to do.

Maybe you can try it as well? Just save a project with one or two Equator instances in it, then restart the PC and try to load the project?

Bitwig once got hung solid and crashed during preset editing in Equator 2 vst, requiring forced restart. This is surprisingly odd behavior from Bitwig which is generally quite stable & robust I believe due to its effective vst sandboxing technique.

The other smaller issue occurs every time after loading a pre-saved Bitwig song containing Equator 2 vst. This is a short delay before Equator 2 default patch becomes audible. I believe this might be just the normal patch loading time in Equator 2 vst.

Did this occur more often in the meantime? i still have the issues that I have to force restart Bitwig because it does not load a project with E2 in it. At this moment I cannot use E2 in main projects unfortunately.

So I bought the upgrade from Cypher 2/Strobe 2 (from Plugin Boutique) but can't register it at Roli as Roli connect says I don't own the products to upgrade from. Cant use the fxpansion serials to register them with Roli as they're not recognised. Never got an email code from fxpansion and their support section now points to Roli. Have asked there a couple of times but no reply as yet.

All sorted now, thanks ROLI Support.

Cant seem to make the wavetable oscillator randomise phase or be 'free running', anyone know how?

Thanks for checking. Seems more and more like it's a local issue. Maybe it is bumping with other instruments. I will have to do some tests to find out. Thanks.

I had no problems recalling a Bitwig project with instances of Equator. However I have some other pretty serious issues with this right now...

In particular Equator seems to randomly cut notes off. This wasn't happening before, I have no idea what's going on. I can not sustain a note, it just cuts off.

As I said above, I'm having this issue where I can't hold a note, which is why it keeps interrupting the sound. I'm having to retrigger it.

It gets even weirder when recording to an audio track direct from the plugin:

By the way, the second one I had never heard until recording it to an audio track just now. It was only the sounds in the first one I was commenting on until now.

Yes, very noticeable there but I get none of that using my mouse. It must be a MIDI thing or maybe you have quantise turned on or something? It's bad enough that it sounds deliberate - it reminds me of the intro to Propaganda's P-Machinery -

Someone with the proper tools should check out equator's output and look for aliasing and distortion if that is a concern... better to see it in black and white than to argue about ears.

If you have to use "the proper tools" to determine something that your ears can't discern, then it is completely and utterly irrelevant.

Is anyone else getting this problem of Equator turning off while holding notes? In Bitwig. The note duration is definitely not to do with the envelopes and seem to be turning off at at different times. It isn't happening in Ableton. Still get the same filter stepping though:

For some reason i cannot play the dropbox wav. And for me it's not very clear what you mean exactly. But I believe I had a similar issue once with Roli Studio Player inside Bitwig, I recorded something, and the notes we're visible, only in some playthrough's i could not hear the notes that played, and in other playthroughs i could hear it, there was no lfo that could have caused that. Is that the same kind of issue you have? I have to add with this i used some gliding and sliding there, it was recorded with the Seaboard.
I think I now managed to solve my issue. It cost me the whole evening yesterday, I reinstalled everything and I sandboxed the plug-in as individually in Bitwig. After that it still did not work, but today suddenly the error's dissapeared. It must be because i turned my pc off yesterday. Hopefully it will not return anymore.

Try opening in new tab. A lot of links don't work for me for audio files in kvr posts unless i do that.

One question: do you actually play your patches while tweaking the cutoff dial on the GUI? Myself, and I think most people assign the cutoff to the mod-wheel, or a macro, aftertouch perhaps, where there are no artefacts.

I prefer to test such features in a musical context. My aim is to make musical, playable, practical patches, not resonant explosions that can damage a person's hearing and definitely reduce the population of bats on this planet.

Here's a couple of examples.

This example uses the SV LP24 at MAXIMUM resonance. No artefacts whatsoever. (again, this is MAXIMUM, 100% resonance):

Below is the LP24 filter which has a non-linear response, it adds saturation. Notice how different it sounds. It's more beefy, but, yes, here I need to keep the resonance to about 87% to keep it within the acceptable range. But, if max resonance is needed then the SV filter is the better choice.

Below is an acid line that goes through 3 filters in various combinations, all with very high resonance. Many permutations, ending with the whole sound being sent into the Model Distortion effect (using the 'Analog' mode).

So, anyone who wants to make practical, musical patches with those filters has nothing to fear. These filters are not of the same quality as those in Cypher2, Strobe2, or Diva, etc. But they are more than capable, in my view. They may not be the right choice for maximum resonance drones that maybe we can make in synths like the MS20, but then, for such sounds we can use the MS20 (a plugin or maybe the MS20 filters in DIVA, etc).

No, I usually use controllers like Novation SL, or Maschine or Push directly mapped to the automatable parameter. Currently, since much of music hardware is packed up, I use Bitwig device controls on a touch screen. Unfortunately I do still hear the stepping in that case, whereas I don't with other synths. Your examples sound fine of course, I'm glad for you.

And I already said it wasn't a big deal because I could hit shift + drag on the Bitwig control for finer resolution, which smooths things out quite a bit. It would still be nice if it was more smooth without the modifier but oh well. The note cutting off is a rather bigger issue at the moment in Bitwig.
