Finished the last track for this album. I should be able to release it for Bandcamp Friday :tu:

Chopping up 7.3 gigs of Santa Cruz (CA) Mockingbird recordings from almost a decade ago, into smaller chucks to run through RX-7 to eliminate background sounds. A pair and an occasional third, were competing with each other for a week+ within a few dozen yards of my bedroom window.
I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

Building some interesting drum/percussion things in VCV Rack. No idea if they'll end up in a track but having some great fun making them. The Befaco Noise Plethora module is a fun beast.

I might use a process that intentionally makes it hard to second-guess creative decisions, but that doesn't stop me from renaming tracks/albums multiple times while working on the cover art :dog:

I’ve had a revelation, found a load of old bits of lyrics which aren’t in themselves any use, but they’ve given me the idea of doing a rattled off, not deeply polished album or EP of daft short songs kind of in the vein of Half Man Half Biscuit and Pavement.

Sample lyric from a song named “Countryfile Watcher”

I’ve seen your house from space
You’re somewhere on that pale blue dot
I don’t trust your face
And the number of them you’ve got

No idea if I can get it together, but it’s something fun to aim for.

My wife woke me up at 1 AM to tell me her 65 gallon aquarium (in the studio/computer room) was leaking and she wanted to move her last remaining elderly goldfish into my tank. (*) I mumbled assent, rolled over... then started having visions of what kind of disaster might be going on in there and what instruments/gear/books needed rescuing :o

Thankfully it was a fairly slow leak, and we were able to empty out the water without any real disaster. And also thankfully it happened when she was in there to notice, instead of me discovering it hours later while getting ready for work, or while we were on vacation or something!

We both wanted to get rid of that tank anyway. I'm not going to miss the aquarium pump noise (and the splashing when the water level dips a bit), and she hated how tall it was and awkward to reach the bottom. And the floor in there isn't really level enough for it anyway. My vote is to replace it with some bookshelves.

(*) "My" tank had corydoras/tetra tank for several years, but as the cories died out, local stores stopped stocking them, so I was going to wait for the last tetras to expire and then reset it and stock it with something else. And then she put her glowlight tetras from work in there during the pandemic lockdown, and those have been the last survivors. So really, it's basically her tank anyway.

:o that was lucky!

i have a friend with several tanks and terrariums, he keeps those little amazon frogs, the poison ones. apparently, theyre not poisonous if they dont eat a particular ant.
but i wont hold one of them.
he also keeps crabs. a pair of vampire crabs, which are always fighting.

im just revelling in xpo vs strega.

Our turtle aquarium started leaking while we were out of town once. Our neighbor was supposed to be keeping an eye on him but they apparently didn't notice... nor did they notice that the freaking turtle had escaped the aquarium at some point. So when we got home we found him chilling in a big puddle of water on the floor! :-o

Luckily nothing was damaged by the incident but we're more careful about how we secure the turtle's tank now (and whom we ask to care for him!)

Was going to record some vocals. Completely forgot what weekend this is.
In England it’s fireworks every night celebrating foiling a plot to burn down parliament and not being in thrall to royal puppets of the Pope. Good job we have the wise leaders we have instead. Oh…
