I do run even System 7 apps on my modern Mac, written for 68000 processors. But that is just nostalgia…
Though my music database runs still in Appleworks on Sheepshaver (System 9). Its too much hassle to port it to something modern and simply works as always…

I wonder if it would be possible to run the old M by Cycling 74. I used to love that thing.

I see the forum Attention Deficit Disorder has already kicked in....... :hihi:

Anyway back on subject...I purchased the boxed version of Absynth what seems like 20 years ago and to this day it remains one of my most regretted purchases.

It's been so long ago I don't even remember why I ended up disliking it and selling my license on a while later. I do like the types of sounds it is typically associated with so that wasn't the issue.

I paid full price and I don't remember if there wasn't a demo available or I just didn't bother to try it but it taught me a valuable lesson. Never purchase blindly.

Anyway having said all that I'll certainly try the Absynth 6 demo if one is available. Perhaps I'll like it better than the early version.

Never used Absynth but I'm eager to know how it sounds and what kind of music you guys create with it. Is Absynth flexible or meant to be used with specific genres?
First and foremost: We need great songs (again)

For me it's pads, drones, exotic, otherworldly morphing dreamlike sounds, although the last thing I used it for was a bassline which I hadn't planned on happening but worked well. The mutation button alone is an instant preset generator.

If nothing else I'm thankful for being reminded of Absynth 5. I find it among the best and easiest synths to get lost and absorbed in and it's jumped up in my rotation again.

The closer the new one is to sounding like an updated Absynth 5 the better imo. Some new bells and whistles might be interesting, but 5's was/is more than deep enough already.

Hopefully some teaser vids arrive soon.

I went back through my tracks to see how much I used it and was surprised to see it hadn't made it into any final or transitory mix. When I look what I have used from NI, it's just Kontakt. So the idea of Absynth far exceeds its reality for me. And yet I'm still interested in it enough to check out this release.

But I think we’ve gotten to the point where most necessary tech upgrades have happened.
MIDI 2.0 will probably be the next tech upgrade, where we're get to be impatient about our favorite DAW or plugin maker again. But that's another 3-5 years.

Or CLAP, which will happen sooner (outside or Cubendo).

Most of the assumptions on what's coming are wrong, btw. But it's only 3 more days until you all get to be sad, disappointed, praising or screaming "THIS is the final nail in the coffin", as you always do.

I love Absynth for its ability to create some of the most ethereal, alien, and overtly digital soundscapes imaginable. Also, keep in mind that it can be used as an effect plug-in as well.

For a number of years, I’ve used the Absynth AU in Logic Pro as a send effect. I especially like using it to process vocals. To me, the results are often like magic, even when compared to more recent VST’s.

So I’m definitely looking forward to the new version. And I hope that it’s more than just an update for recent machines and operating systems. There are some who don’t want it messed with, and think that it’s good enough as is. But I have higher hopes for version 6.

I’d love to see them continuing to push the boundaries of what’s possible through synthesis, made possible by some revolutionary new features. I admit that’s a bit idealistic, but I’m still a dreamer!! :tu:

Man, sounds like I should check this thing out closer. I'd love to hear examples like that morphex? Banks to look at or just the factory stuff?

I don’t know I think most will just be happy it’s back with a bigger interface and can work in KK again. Speaking for myself only, while I’d love things like MPE and touch screen compatibility (as Brian did a great job with both of those on Plasmonic) I wouldn’t be too disappointed if those don’t happen. I’ll be thrilled to be able to see the UI and enjoy working with my huge preset library and ther mutations again.
