Theo, I suspect you won't have much success with this I'm sorry to say.
I can't imagine getting Apple/iTunes to make a change is all that easy.
Good luck with it though.

Oh well, that's what things are like.TheoM wrote:Well yes I agreed for it to be on a CD.. which is fine. But when i put my new album up on itunes, that will come up as well under my artist name, and it will shine a bad light on me quality wise.
We do all (hopefully) improve. And at the same time, we have to "sort of agree" that whatever of our former creations haven't been as "great" enough to fulfill our current "standards".
Fwiw, that's perfectly fine with me. Back then, I have been contributing to something as well. And I'm not exactly completely happy with either my personal performance or the way it has been "produced".
But it was what it was. I haven't been too dumb to realize my performance was less than ideal back then. I also haven't been too dumb to realize that the way my "performance" was used was probably less than "ideal", either.
But I perfectly accepted it, regardless of what I'd be thinking about it several years later.
Seriously, do you think that all artists from whatever time would still put out the same product if they had already improved? If so, many (even make that "almost all") music productions would not be available anymore.
What about, say, the "White Album" of the Beatles? It has even been kinda slaughtered back then. And it still is (at least somewhat). Yet, it's an incredibly amazing piece of art for loads of people. I hated it, when I shelled out that amount of money for something that I thought was utter shite. I sold it just a week after I bought it. But today it belongs to my list of "musical treasures". And it will be there for a (life?)time to come.
So, what does that say about our (possibly inferior) "Katrina" album? Right, it doesn't say anything. But I'm sure you could get sort of (legally) removed from the list of participants. Just that such a step wouldn't exactly display your "musical history" at all anymore.
Sincerely
Sascha

I suppose for me the bigger question is where is the money going from sales on iTunes?

Well, the iTunes distribution will presumably have come automatically through the original CDBaby deal, so the person to ask will be whoever set that up. Kovacs, was it?aMUSEd wrote:I suppose for me the bigger question is where is the money going from sales on iTunes?

Let's be honest about this - I'm guessing it's highly unlikely ANYONE will be buying this off of iTunes. We had a hard enough time selling the physical copies - from what I recall. I wouldn't be surprised if Kovacs still has a pile of them or if there's a bunch left at CDBaby.
To TheoM - no worries about the 'quality' issue. In fact, work this to your advantage - if there's an obvious step up in your quality, point that out "I've been working hard for 10+ years to improve my craft. Here's some proof: listen to track xyz on Chrysalid: Musicians for Katrina Relief"

Hi Theo, imagine if all our favourite artists went back and either cancelled their work or rewrote it. There would be anarchy.
Just think about the hash George Lucas and Spielberg have made of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, ET etc.
I'm yet to hear a single positive comment about these amends.
Personally I will never watch another film from them, ever...
I think it was Stan or Kyle who said it best "this is our history that makes us who we are. You can't take it back now or change it, as it is no longer yours but ours". Or words much better than that anyway.

Also, how many times have you heard a B side or deleted track of a loved artists and it sucked.TheoM wrote:That's true!
You don't turn off the band, but simply think "oh wow, I'm glad they improved".

Just wanted to say that I have NO IDEA where any money made by sales via iTunes or CDBaby end up. I haven't heard from CDBaby since about 2006...and I was never involved with setting up iTunes (I wonder if that was part of the deal with CDBaby).
I was on the receiving end of the CD sales and all proceeds were sent to the charities we selected. It was a very manual job. We never set up any automatic transfers of any kind.
I seriously doubt that the CD still sells, though.
Sorry for bumping this thread back from the stone ages...
(And yes, I still have a pile of the Chrysalid CDs, Freeztar sent me a bunch a few years back. If anyone would like to get one let me know and I'll figure out your shipping cost).
