Inspector XL is there again (no name change in that case :D, but iLok :(), and the free Inspector is also downloadable.

89 was the temp price, the real intro price was 49 USD...
A done deal for me!

Glad I bought their stuff when you could still buy it @ EA.
I usually don't upgrade my hardware or software, unless there is a bug. So no problem for me at all.
But I do feel sorry for the folks who want to upgrade, or who were planning to buy nice plugins with great GUI's for a fair price. That all seems gone, for the sake of a 'better' distribution system...
(Yeah right, I heard sales are wonderful now)

Hoho! He's finally getting a clue, it seems. Probably too late anyways.

So what's the deal with InspectorXL then? Is he charging for it? And, if so, how much of an increase has there been? It's like 600 dollars now right?

And, I don't think you can download the free inspector without putting PACE on your system....beware.

OH GREAT DEAR MOTHERF*CKING GOD! It's in grey! Boring ass shit windows GREY! And it runs on Pace? PACE?! So I need another dongle just for this metering tool?

And the hell, it was "cheaper", too? I never knew that it was once 49USD only.

And yeah... it really looks like as if RND upgrades only if we complain about anything. The price? 219 was planned, then we can expect at least 550USD as "new price" now with the same engine, the same bugs, just a new coloured GUI.

Thank god that we were asked for a change, thank god that we're all so very much informed and thank god that we're all millionaires! *and thank god I stored my license for iXL, and the downloading still works!*

Somebody please meet Roger Nichols at the next NAMM and punch him in the face. kthnx.

I downloaded it and it didn't install pace. I also just zipped up the dll, uninstalled it and dropped that (the .dll) back into my vst folder and it still works fine....so for those who hate installers... (you can do this with most installed packed vst/i, the installer is a complete waste, no idea whay they are used a lot of the time.)

How come the Inspector XL demo is *77* megs?

That seems rather large for a few plugs that don't even contain DSP... I can't remember how big IXL was when I purchased it, but I'm sure it wasn't 80 megs..? The combinaed size of my IXL plugs (Mac version) is 13 megs, plus a bit more for the docs and support files. Let's double that as the download includes RTAS versions. So that's, lets say, 28 megs accounted for.

So what's making up the other 40 megs now? The RND logo? The iLok stuff? ;)
All the other plugs are around a 15 meg download...

Maybe you're getting some of RNDs famous presets with those 77 MB.

I wondered about that file size as well...seemed like a bit much. He probably used bitmaps for the shitty interface, since he used Winpain to make it...so they might add to the file size a bit. :hihi:

The original was (about) 18 MB, so were the two EA updates of Inspector XL

bleebsen wrote: Re-selling your software is ALWAYS legal in germany, f.e. - contradicting EULA-statements are not valid over here.
That's just partially correct. You can always sell software that you bought on a physical medium (CD, disc, whatever), that's true, and even weirdo EULA cannot prevent you from doing so. Actually, it's also legal to sell sampling CDs etc. in Germany - in contrast to what is sometimes said in forums. This has something to do with the specifics of German 'Urheberrecht' and the so called 'Erschoepfung', which means that the seller can only sell an item once, and then his rights over the item are 'gone' (erschoepft), so the seller cannot prevent the buyer from reselling it (clearly, the idea behind this is that even a program on a CD is still bound to a physical carrier, therefore resellable like other goods). Note that this is very different from copyright laws in some other countires (like the US) that allow 'licensing' software in their copyright. Actually, Microsoft lost a case against somebody selling MS OEM software here in Germany some years ago.

However, things are different with downloadable software. There was a court decision lately which said that re-selling downloadable software is not legal, as long as the seller does not allow it, because it would mean that the buyer is making copies of the item. This decision is obviously BS, because it doesn't make a whole lot of sense (what's the difference from buying the software on CD?), but that's the current situation here. Probably this might go to a higher (federal) court, so the situation might change again.
