man, if you have time, get the venom up n running
and worry about the rest later.

Post

it could be a great pattern creator for x0x, exporting
banks of patterns...that would be very useful.
and if not sending MIDI out(?), MIDI file export?

Post

actually, now i have experience with sending midi data from the SE SDK
i wrote a midi sync clock generator to use it with my x0xb0x and it works, it also has shuffle features and stuff like Twice slower/faster
so, i could implement a MIDI-Sync mode into Venom just like in the x0xb0x
i could also make Venom send out midi Notes, but i really don't know if i want to put such a thing there..

more time passed, there was a slight movement around the CPU mod (from other people..) but it stopped too
i'm gonna ask if this is going somewhere or nowhere
It doesn't matter how it sounds..
..as long as it has BASS and it's LOUD!

it'll get somewhere eventually, but best to let someone
go there first and confirm it's working than spend time
and money on components. the board exists, i read, so
it will come when people have time.

i like the idea of writing a load of patterns on the
plugin, and being able to back it up in whatever
format and fire it into a x0x via MIDI or USB.

i understand about sending out MIDI notes ;)
but it would be nice, a bit like having some old
monosynth running off your cv+gate outputs
exporting MIDI files might be cool too... it's a
bit frustrating working at a load of patterns
and not being able to take them anywhere else.
(you could have it as a really hidden underground
feature, lol- only certain combination keypresses
would reveal access, and only after you'd reached
level three and made onto the highscore list )

since m-audio have taken YOUR synth name,
i guess you will not fight with them :

a new name ?

Post

my synth is named "Venom VB-303"
i chose that name because google didn't return anything for it back then
http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=med ... om#results
check the date it's anounced..

btw, i don't mind m-audio naming their new synth "Venom" ..i got no problem with this..

"i got no problem with this..."
sure, but... m-audio ?
I remember a project, i had called Ignition, modified following
the release of a Digidesign pack with the same name many month after
i had released the beta here :(

Paranoiac mode : digidesign/m-audio read KVR ?

This post : just to say "take care", you're free :)

yeah i saw that; thought it was pretty sly considering
everyone knows it's the name of antto's synth.
(was wondering if they'd hired him, lol)

+1000

I understand your obsession to make it perfect, but I think it's time for a new beta. Also, have you had time to work on that "mutant" style sequencer you had planned a while ago?

^+1, was gonna ask but i assumed antto had dropped development.

no, i haven't left Venom
but i'm close to dropping developement of n0nx0x (the x0xb0x firmware) because it's delaying Venom

"mutant style sequencer" uhm, i'm not sure what you mean
according to plan, Venom's sequencer will approximately have:
Pattern Edit/Play modes would be as on the TB-303 (or better)
- Pattern Chains might be different here
- Write up to 8 patterns continuously (chain 2 patterns and when you edit them it's like one bigger pattern of 32 steps)
- Tap Programming like on the 303 (you hear a metronome, you tap a key and the sequencer generates the Time data for it)
MIDI Trigger Mode (this is like the first beta versions, you trigger individual patterns with individual midi notes.. you know)
Internal or External sync (aka internal sync by Tempo knob, External by tracking the Host BPM, and i'm thinking about MIDI clock sync too now)
very complex pattern manipulation/randomization features built into Pattern Edit mode with visualisation on the LCD
eventually some brand-new style Track Mode (inspired by Trackers)
4kB memory like on a x0xb0x
pattern import/export into different formats (compact NSP-like format (compatible with n0nx0x) Plain-Text 303 format (easy for humans to modify with a text editor) and FreeBee (ABL))
if i make Track Mode - tracks will be also import/export-able (probably in a compact NSP-like format compatible with n0nx0x)

that's if n0nx0x actually lives to see it

The "Mutant" seq I was talking about had a green lcd screen with red accent marks or something. Can't remember if it was for Venom or Open 303.

Like the display in assecsa's post on this page:

oh, that was another 303 synth, java based (iirc)
i think it's posted in the previous pages somewhere

Oh okay. Thanks. and this:

Might not be a bad idea. I know you wanted integration between the two, but IMHO, you should just concentrate on Venom....

again, nonx0x is up to a 'stage1' of development, where it
does most of what you set out to do, and can be used. you
can afford to leave that where it is for now, i reckon.
(you did pretty well to get another x0x OS out there anyway!)

pattern chains! :wheee:
yeah i think we can have faith in what you'll come up with
for the sequencer, based on what you've done so far.
a temporary 'pre-beta' would be a good way to get some concensus
on features?(with a bit of documentation...)
