Get SWS extensions and bind F to 'open first fx on track' or something similar (search for it).

Now select a track and hit F and the VST will open without the messy fx window displayed. Tis a life-saver here.

Aaah yeah, click on an fx slot on the MCP
This is the only way i know of to not bring up the fx chain window (Pop up)

Would you still buy Reaper if it will cost you as much as the other DAWs ?
