OTOH, as a musician you want to get heard, because you want to express something. So, admittedly, if you make music that everyone want to listen to, it even could be bad music, but if you make good music that nobody want to listen to, isn't that bad (not to get heard)??
Above all, it's different if you make music (and shows) to earn money (like Norman Cook), or if you perform it as kind of an ("good" meant) art in your spare time.
Not.
I'm not doing anything to be popular or liked.
I'm doing whatever I do, for the joy of doing it.
(of course I don't really do much music, but in sound design for me it applies)
Someone true to doing what they enjoy, is not gonna be the one doing the latest trend. There too busy creating the next one.

Bad is what nobody wants to listen to.

So you can have the best analog hardware (synthesizer) equipment for $30,000 -- if you make crappy music with it that nobody wants to hear, then it really doesn't sound better than that of the in-the-box-guy with free Oatmeal and Crystal who creates outstanding tunes...just an example...

You can feel yourself better with $30,000 synthesizers, but your music don't care for.
So, should you head a committee that assigns the proper level of instrument to a musician based on how you perceive their talent?
We need no committee, we only need listeners...
but the majority of listeners only listen to what theyre told to listen to by the radio or magazines.
eg adelle has sold more albums in the uk in just over a year than michael jacksons thriller sold since it was released 30 ish years ago, does that mean adelle is better than michael jackson?
does quantity mean quality? mcdonalds sell more burgers other high end restaurants, so their food is better than a trained chef?
:ud:

How should the majority of listeners know of you, if they don't read about you??

Nobody would have known Fatboy Slim, if he haven't had such a good marketing to blend himself amongst the folk...

i do have fun, thanks.
the fun is in the process, not whether other people enjoy it
the only minority i care about when it comes to my output is me, anything beyond that is too much hassle, having to cater to other people isnt my idea of fun. if it was id work in retail, fame just means not being able to go for a walk in the park without being hassled

No, expressing something has nothing to do with sharing that expression of something.

Why would it be, unless you're desparate for validation?
