If it is hardware locked it's very unobtrusive and has never caused a problem, even when I moved from PC to Mac, I just had to log into my account and register the serials. With the Cakewalk one you don't even need to do that, just log in.

Yes but that installation will go without a hitch, bottles of champagne will be opened, fireworks will light up the sky, many backs will be slapped in congratulations.BERFAB wrote:Hey guys...Over here....

Until Apple buys them, that is.aMUSEd wrote:If it is hardware locked it's very unobtrusive and has never caused a problem, even when I moved from PC to Mac, I just had to log into my account and register the serials. With the Cakewalk one you don't even need to do that, just log in.

Just to share my experience, I've installed Rapture Pro in win 8.1 via the regular installer then activated and installed content via CC. Had no major issues apart from very few content files that could not be extracted and the fact that CC shows the plugin as orange instead of green because it was not installed via CC. Works like a charm in Reaper 64 bit.
Overall a positive experience so far, this is a very powerful synth if you consider the underlying SFZ capabilities (Cakewalk will have to document these in detail at some point - supported opcodes and all). Lots of useful content too. Not all presets are great but there are several gems in there.
It's really unfair to compare with Omnisphere 2, a synth that costs 7+ times its price (remember you can still get the original Rapture for less than 5 gbp with the Computer Music back issue and then upgrade for less than 70 usd to Pro - a steal imho considering the capabilities and content).
I strongly believe that Cakewalk should leverage on the existing SFZ infrastructure to add capabilities in the GUI. SFZ can do wavescanning, waveguide, apply IRs and other tricks - why not add these to the synth GUI since they are already supported? A full blown embedded SFZ editor would make the synth much more competitive.
A minor gripe is that knobs now don't work when the respective fx is off. In the original Rapture they could be assigned via an SFZ opcode (for example pitch_oncc140) to do special functions. This renders sfz files like multisaw 5st.sfz in the 00-Wavetables folder useless.

I'm pretty sure that original rapture never even asked you WHERE it was going to put it's multisamples folder, it was hard coded to be in c:\program files(x86) - which was odd cos dim pro on the other hand DID let you set where the multisamples were installedgnosis123 wrote: Probably back in Rapture's early days the default pathlength was much shorter, and the assumption never got revisited. A perfect example of why every team needs an evil Q/A person who enjoys making things fail.
and I have a nasty feeling the current path length issues in .prog files is directly tied to rp having to be backwards compatible with original rapture/dim pro .prog files

In the original Rapture you could change the path of the Multisamples folder by creating a registry key.

and also i wonder why they did not have make the preset window in the same size as the Mixer window ?
whats the reason to make it near the half size ?

My biggest problem with Rapture Pro right now is that I can't get the 32bit or 64bit plugins to show up in Cubase 8 Pro on Windows 8.1.
They have installed to a custom folder and I have added that folder to Cubase 8 search list.
The VST3 version of Rapture Pro version works fine. I don't generally use VST3 plugins though.

*sigh* too many crashes with this, hung notes too, I think I'm just gonna uninstall and put it in mothballs until an update comes along. I would sell everything in my cakewalk account right now if I could, I should have bought Helix instead.

Oh FFS, what decade are we living in? Archaic shit like this is why I've left the Windows platform altogether. There's no testing of user-customized paths, and no body bothers to redesign old code that still has path length limits. Ports of Windows synths to Mac OS that have path length limitations are exactly why I sat here waiting to see what Mac users would experience.aMUSEd wrote:Got it - the sfz files don't actually contain the samples, they are referenced from somewhere else but because of the long path it's not loading them either. If I put the entire Architecture folder on my desktop they load fine, but I am not going to resave every single Piscis patch to point to a new location just to fix this, Cakewalk should not have this stupid long paths limitation - it's Windows that has this problem, not Macs usually. I can't risk installing it at a higher level folder either because of the risk that it will delete everything next to it. I put it in a folder of its own for a reason.aMUSEd wrote:OK I tried moving the Gaussian Spectrums folder up several levels - what I find is that this enables the files to load (manually as it breaks the paths in the preset) but they still don't make a sound, whereas the exact same sfz files in the old Rapture folder do. This is maddening as I even copied some of the old sfzs into the Rapture Pro Gaussian Spectrums folder so I know these are the exact same sfz files but they do not make a sound if loaded from inside the Rapture Pro folder.jdnz wrote:21 characters more (161 vs 140) - have a look at the filenames in the 'gaussian spectrums' folder, are the filenames themselves also rather long?aMUSEd wrote: Good point - so it's
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Rapture Content/Multisamples/Galbanum Architecture/SFZ MultiSamples/Spectrum Instruments/Gaussian Spectrums/filename
vs
/Volumes/FreeAgent GoFlex Drive/Samples/Cakewalk/Rapture Pro/Multisamples/Galbanum Architecture/SFZ MultiSamples/Spectrum Instruments/Gaussian Spectrums/filename
does look a bit longer - however that doesn't explain why all the other files in the Galbanum Architecture folder (some also in nested subfolders) do load, just not the ones in the Gaussian Spectrums folder.
All of this made much harder by the fact that RP won't remember where I last browsed to!

So you ignore the post under it just to take a stab at the OS you don't like. Grow up.Jace-BeOS wrote: Oh FFS, what decade are we living in? I use symbolic links in Windows for all library files, as long as your careful, note what you've done and take care it works a treat.dnekm wrote:In the original Rapture you could change the path of the Multisamples folder by creating a registry key.
Effectively similiar to a shortcut that Windows will see as a physical folder [nto as a shortcut]

Here is the info on the registry keys for Dimension pro and Rapture. I have no idea if this is relevant to Rapture Pro right now....

yes you can do it with rapture pro as well , basically before i installed Rapture Pro via command center i have moved the multisamples folder from rapture and dimension pro to the folder where Rapture Pro should install the multisamples , after that i installed rapture pro via command center and edited the registry keys !dnekm wrote:Here is the info on the registry keys for Dimension pro and Rapture. and installing rapture pro via command center was the only correct installation for myselves
now rapture , dimension pro and rapture pro shares the same multisamples folder
