I agree, it's something like that with most of the older Analog simulation. But feels a bit different with the newer Digital such as the DX7 or Pigments.

Somewhat agree. And I think it's good that synths have a kind of personnality and sonic identity. If all the synths were sounding identical .... what a boring world.

In my experience a lot of the so called 'sheen' that covers 'all' instruments in a manufacturers range (I have heard this said about Tone2 as well) often comes from the fact that they often use the same built in fx engines across the range (and often liberally applied to all pre-sets!)….turn of the fx and/or roll your own sounds and things sound a lot less generic. I don't blame pre-set makers for slathering fx on sounds as a lot of people like that finished produced sound, but it can often mask/overpower any subtle nuances or differences in oscillators and filters etc….

I don't know if Arturia are listening, but I find myself wanting to click one of the modulators and then dragging a temporary cable to the parameter or knob I'm choosing to modulate and then seeing that parameter or knob flash until I set the contours.

What I don't like is that the entire modulation section gets replaced with an ugly box and each time I touch a new parameter another box appears. It might be good for ease of use and a first release, but this ugly box that pops up is not elegant compared to what the rest of the synth is trying to do in terms of visual feedback.

Things get even uglier when I want to modulate a modulator with another modulator, having to sidechain in the ugly box section.

This is not a complaint or meant as a negative criticism, I actually love this synthesizer, and I love the idea of having visual feedback rather than boxes or numbers. I find some of the synth elegant in its design, but other areas are just lacking in elegance and visual feeback, such as the FX section, the unison, the sequencer and those ugly boxes that pop up.

Another suggestion for Arturia in a possible future version. Having an EQ as a filter type, or even simply designing or drawing in your own filter or EQ curve (or choosing preset curves), such as in Linplug's abandoned Spectral. This makes things somewhat crazy, powerful, creative and very modern in the approach to subtractive synthesis. The emphasis here is creativity, one of the things the synthesizer is trying to aim for.

I'm not getting that, but I've said similar things about Tone2 in the past.

I think you're onto something there -- that makes a lot of sense, actually. I do tend to roll my own sounds. And my Tone2 comments were probably back when I evaluated synths mostly by trying all the presets.

It's not the greatest advertisement for your preset design business if you are unable to make an init preset. :D

(Not to mention missing the entire "template" category in the dropdown box)

What synth are you talking about? If you mean Pigments, it has a default preset in the template section.

Criticism is fine, spreading false information isn't.

Yes, with that, the built in tutorial and the 'sound design' tips it is a really good synth for someone to learn (or improve) with sound design.

Pigments with some phase mod/phase distortion with env mod. + eq + saturn = hvy metal guitar sound. Render the audio to .wav and import the .wav to Pigments and wola, you have a interesting wavetable play with now.
