Jupiter 8 split mode is literally like 2 Jupiters on one keyboard. Arturia made the decision to not include it because it would be functionally no different than using 2 instances of Jup-8 V4, which you can already do to achieve the same result. Running 2 instances is actually much more CPU efficient on a multicore machine than a single instance in split mode.Luka_Kostii wrote: Tue Jul 18, 2023 3:47 pm They ruined JP-8 V4 for me by getting rid of the split mode.

You can also achieve split mode in Analog Lab, which I guess is how Arturia envisaged it (and Analog Lab has a multicore mode)jamcat wrote: Sat Jul 22, 2023 10:12 pmJupiter 8 split mode is literally like 2 Jupiters on one keyboard. The original Jupiter supported splits/layers, as did the original Jup-8 V. So... removing the functionality, was likely due to changes under the covers, that would have been complex for Arturia to enable. That's the only reason, that makes any sense. Why else would they purposely make patches no longer work? Yes.. we can get around the limitation through Analog Lab, using up two slots, or multiple instances in a DAW / host. It's still a kludge, and it still means that anyone who was using the split/layer functionality on an earlier verion.. has to re-write their patches. PITA. It is also a step backward, from the perspective of Arturia having maintained patch compatibility with the original instrument. Their other instruments have... and Jup-8 used to... not anymore more..

It's not a kludge at all to use Analog Lab for this, it's very easy to setup and in fact this is really what Analog Lab was made for, to create multi's from the Arturia Collection, as well as act as a librarian. It probably just didn't make sense to Arturia to keep it in Jup 8 itself when Analog Lab does it so much better, being able to also combine the Jup 8 with other synths, as well as additional instances of itself, and additional effects to make much more complex patches (and all able to use Multicore, which wasn't the case in the old Jupjdoo wrote: Mon Jul 24, 2023 12:40 pm The original Jupiter supported splits/layers, as did the original Jup-8 V. Coffee haven't reached my grumpy Sunday persona yet, so I am not viewing the world through the most favourable light yet.
I am not happy with that solution. For quickly layering two sounds together, it's absolutely perfect. Just drag and combine is simple and usable. But as a multi, it's quite underwhelming. I guess I am spoiled with the multi editor in Omnisphere - which is far from perfect - but being able to layer up to 8 sounds at the same time all with different levels, sends and pan controls is so wonderfully inspiring.
But being able to at least layer two sounds is at least something. I am not aware that you can save your combinations, are you?

Not sure about this one, it seems to be Casio doing DX-like FM. The PD side is covered with CZ V.
I don’t think the Kawai has any « almost there » candidates in the Collection (nor anywhere else), and it’d add a rare approach to sound design in VST land.

Hopefully not yet another recreation of old crap but, something refreshing and original like Pigments for example.

I'd like to see more from Ensoniq. I've always found them to have a very unique sound, such as the SD-1 & TS-10/12.

I love the way Arturia shadow drops their releases without endless teasers. No warnings or anything. Love it.

Well, some people did make some leaks last time, and they are potentially helpful if you are thinking of buying a product from elsewhere which is a similar instrument and you'd rather Arturia's brand.
For example, Cherry Audio's Mercury 6 is really tempting, but what if Arturia are going to release a Jupiter 6 clone? It would be helpful to know what they're creating at least a few months in advance of release.
Did I make my point clear enough or has you all fell asleeps?

i hear you. i think it would be hard to do anyways.. the VZ has a very distinct sound. sounds different than other synths of the era and different than the CZ V. something about it just makes it jump outSebAV wrote: Sun Jul 30, 2023 6:33 amNot sure about this one, it seems to be Casio doing DX-like FM. I'll stand by my, comment that Arturia broke something that had been working, and backward compatibility with the OG Jupiter 8. It happened. It's not the end of the world. Being honest.. Arturia doesnt need apologists trying to explain why they broke something that had been working like the original (supporting layers and splits) since their Jupiter 8V 2007 release. 16 years ago... working like the original... and a new (better sounding!) release now.. but with a feature regression. Your comment "It probably just didn't make sense to Arturia to keep it in Jup 8 itself when Analog Lab does it so much better, being able to also combine the Jup 8 with other synths, as well as additional instances of itself, and a..." makes no sense whatsoever. What makes more sense, is that Arturia hit some technical hurdle when they re-wrote the core system, and it would have delayed release, or been too complicated to be backward compatible. That... which is my guess (and we're guessing here!) - make more sense, than they broke 16 years worth of software patches that used splits or layers.. because they thought Analog Lab was better?
