I don’t have a lot that sound as good - because there’s aren’t a lot that sound as good (I’ve used a lot of soft synths and have quite a few, too). But there’s definitely several that do. I agree that it’s not super analog drifty sounding (which is a good thing since I have plenty of those, including analog hardware) - kinda “DCO” style or digital through analog filters combo I really like.pdxindy wrote: Sun Aug 13, 2023 12:35 amWell, yeah... PolyMAX is ridiculously limited for modulation. I'd be bored with it in 2 hours.vitocorleone123 wrote: Sat Aug 12, 2023 8:44 pm PolyMax sounds great - better than many analog synths. Since it isn't actually emulating anything, who cares how analog it sounds if it sounds great? I sure don't. I easily choose PolyMax over several analog emulation synths I have based on sound quality... but I'd choose it more easily if it had just a touch more modulation (e.g., even 2 modulation slots like Repro).
If you think it sounds great, have at it. I think it sounds very good but a bit on the bland side and I've got half a dozen synths+ that sound as good in their own way and which are sonically far more flexible and interesting.
There's no reason for a software synth that, as you say, isn't even a specific emulation, to be so limited. It's a weird affectation.
The designer’s intent was a great sounding synth that’s super easy to dial in basic sounds. They did that really really well. Too well, maybe, because they also lost sight of actual users, I think. A few mod slots would’ve gone a long way. Opal is a better overall synth, but not quite as simple to use.
