I want to demo Current! But I cant! There is no Paypal option on checkout. Only credit card.
No one I know here in Germany has a silly credit card!
Really cant believe this.. I cant get the product because I dont have a credit card? Seriously?!
Im German and obviously people have credit cards here, but especially younger folks often dont have one, and i see younger people as the main demographic for this.
I hope they add paypal for the re Release or they are gonna make a mistake again and leave out many people(me including). Every synth i own has had a paypal option btw

I have started the 30 days trial and I must say this is an excellent synth, it is well thought of some details like for instance the sub oscillator with wide features like sub lock and the knock button and the choice of harmonics or not, same counts for the sampler, also a fixed tuning that i really miss in most other synths, because sometimes I want a sound on a locked drone texture which is only on the background in the root key. the granular is nice, however it looks quite similar with pigments or equator 2, the wavetables are similar to serum imo. The sound quality is very good and the effects are also very good. MPE is there and look similar to Equator 2 which IMO is the best for MPE. The filters look and sound good but I do miss a drive button, FM/AM has it's own tab, the gui is very easy in overall, everything has it's own spot and looks very logic, also it's fully stacked with presets and wavetables for most of the features and effects. I think it would have been nice if there are more routing options like giving every osc it's own effects (maybe it's there but did not found it yet). In short it's like Pigments meets Serum meets Equator 2. Don't know yet if I will continue after the trial because I have all 3 of these synths but I would definitely consider it, maybe in a sale if there will be one.

Thanks mate ! Very useful...

Is there any interesting things on the spectral side ? I mean something more like DS Thorn or the Reason Europa filters ?

I feel the feature you mention are very nicely done but as you said, also very much already available.

I do not have Europa but if you mean the harmonic filter in DS Thorn? There is no option to draw wavetables or filters, but in the wavetable osc's there are multiple presets for spectral and can be adjusted with a warp button. The separate filters are very basic in my opinion but the spread button is kinda special, it gives some kind of interesting stereo sound. It's nice there are a lot of filter types to choose from. The unison mode sounds great and everything has a lot of presets, even the ARP and chord mode has many to choose from.

Ok great. Yes it was exactly my question, I was referring in particular to the spectral filters of DS Thorn but I could have also mentioned the Spectral effects of Grain, the granular synth of Reason Studios. It is not very good for Granular but his strength is an absolutely crazy spectral processor with which you can mashup the sound. I was wondering if Current was having something similar.

Why are people fixated on this?

They didn't think of the subscription plan as some kind of "gotcha" like you do. It's not something that needs to be disclosed in previews, like "you need a 4TB SSD to install it" or "contains peanuts" or something :hihi:

I'm sure that when companies send stuff to YouTubers they don't typically mention what the retail price will be -- this wasn't any different from that.

So how it stands against Phase Plant or Falcon? I heard great fx from video and sub osc is very interesting. Unfortunately can't try myself. Waiting for the proper demo.

I just spent an hour playing with it...
First impression is very very very impressed...
Surprisingly, the synth doesn't remind me much of Phase Plant or Falcon but more VPS Avenger. It seems really like an Avenger killer with an UI way clearer, a very big sound and an awful lot of power...

Compared to phase plant it doesn't seems as modular as PP is. Maybe with a bit of practice I can change my view but Phase Plant remains a model of simplicity for complex sound design...
And the Filter section seems reacher also thanks to the kiloheartz wonders, even if the effects of Current are absolutely great too (I love morphEQ).

Compared to Falcon, Current is way way more user friendly. I could do in 1 hour what I still struggle to do after 1 year with Falcon.
But here again, Falcon is so powerful and with so much content, I don't think current can replace it immediately. Also, like Phase Plant, Falcon seems more modular.

So basically, if I were to start my synth collection now, Current would be a no brainer.
But with already too many synths at hand, I am not sure if I can find really good excuses to keep Current after the demo.

I will maybe wait for Avenger 2, see how it compares... But as it stands, I feel I would certainly have Avenger 1 and Current instead of Avenger 2...

As per Serum, Hive or Vital, clearly Current seems like an evolution of them (only my opinion).

The youtubers themselves, or at least one, stated that they do, in fact, expect to know whether something will be subscription only and that they thought that it was a betrayal because they put their name out their with the product.

You guys drone on all you want. I don't get excited about $200 wavetable synths.

Complete bullshit. Of course it's a "gotcha"..

.. and no, when companies send stuff to YouTubers (or any review/marketing that is 3rd party) the price is always disclosed, _always_ .

Dude, you shilling for this company now?

Thanks for such a detailed answer.
One more question.
Is it true that you can't drop your own samples to Current's sampler and granular oscs?

Ok this is actually an awesome synth. Not sure what it adds more to the table besides cool integrated browser with cloud downloads. GUI is great, but so are Serum, Rapid, Vital. Sound is great but so others too. Very good CPU use for the quality it gives. Its an awesome synth in an oversaturated market.

OK, I assumed wrong and stand corrected.

I don't actually watch plugin YouTubers very much, I'd rather just try a demo.

I do watch those sorts of videos about Eurorack gear... and they never talk about price. That only seems to happen in trade show interviews and the actual word comes directly from the mouth of someone at the company.

I've beta tested Eurorack modules for three different companies, and none of them told me what the price was going to be on the gear they sent me for testing. It's a different situation (the opposite of publicity at that stage) but still.

bmanic wrote: Sat Oct 14, 2023 5:00 pm Dude, you shilling for this company now?
Hey look, a brand new conspiracy theory! This thread keeps getting better and better.

I can't even tell you what the company's other products are except this thing and Rift. I've never talked to anyone at Minimal Audio. And I think they screwed up here (but I think it was honest mistakes, not some kind of twisted plot).

But I am a software developer myself (not anything to do with music gear, it's aerospace engineering and formerly computer games), and I have beta tested for a couple of companies and gotten to know a few music gear developers, and they're all pretty great people. So I kind of lose my shit when people talk dirt about them just in general.

A lot of people seem super willing to assume and believe the absolute worst about everyone in the music gear industry -- they're all greedy, lazy, stupid, dishonest, etc. -- and I'm just tired of that attitude.

I mean it's a perfectly reasonable assumption given the recent activity of many.
