Your reaction was understandable, even if it was a little excessive. Nevertheless, you have a really good supporter-base here, which you have earned. Don't worry about the chancers over in the sewers of the internet, most of them just collect software and don't even use the stuff they steal anyway. Perhaps a few of them may even find their way over here and develop a conscience, its happened before.

After reading this thread and hearing Fathom, I bought it ($45). I want to support the developer and his product.

I had some time now to formulate an apology here to KVR and all its members.
I just want everyone to know that despite what happened I’m not a huge fan (generally) of drama. There are circumstances, however, in which one has to be very open and honest about a mistake.
For those of you who don’t know what happened, in a nutshell, Seaweed Audio has been having problems with piracy lately and a few days ago I lost my temper and threatened to close down the entire operation if the illegal downloads were not removed.
To say that this was irrational and capricious behavior would be an understatement. It was disrespectful to every Fathom user who has supported our project and it was disrespectful to KVR to use their forum for this kind of immaturity.
For this I owe everyone an apology. I am sorry.
I was surprised at how many users wrote to me expressing support and some understanding of my reaction given what was at stake. This does not, however, in any way excuse it.
It is my responsibility to know the forum rules at KVR, especially ones for which there are overwhelming legal reasons for being in place. The fact that KVR has agreed to give me a second chance here as a developer is very kind on their part.
Finally I just want to say, in retrospect doing something like this to foster sympathy or to complain about the challenges of a business which I knew about going in, is behavior completely unbecoming of the leader of company.
Especially in the audio software business, developers and owners work for years to establish their product and their reputation. They do so without complaining and without theatrics. This is true as much for the industry’s software developers as it is for musicians, producers and audio engineers. Complaining privately to a close friend is one thing but doing so publicly is very bad form.
The point is I should have known better.
Fathom’s development will continue full force and the upcoming vector processing release will be license protected in a way which places the comfort of our end users in as high a priority as the protection itself.
Apologizing in a thread is easy. Changing one’s attitude in the long run in order to establish trust with users and other people in the industry is not so easy.
It is to that task which I will be applying myself with renewed vigor from now on.

Your attitude in this thread always appeared to me as one of a friendly and very responsive developer. I will show my respect and support by buying Fathom. I've always liked the synth since the OSC but I've got too many other things to use so I never bought it. But now I will
[And for what it's worth, I think there is some legitimacy to the claim that the majority of those who will use a crack would likely never buy anyway. Even though it's awful - of course - hopefully there won't be as much harm to your business as you would understandably worry about]
