But you wouldn't listen to it in an anechoic chamber, but rather in a concert hall or a church. So there would be loads of reverb.Tj Shredder wrote: Tue Jul 19, 2022 9:56 pm If you throw enough reverb around, even one ping only sounds great…
Lets keep the challenge part of the game…
Listen to a Bach partita for solo violin, it simply does not need effects to be great music. The challenge part also demands composition vs. just construction/production…

The rules as they are prohibit 1/ dance music cliches 2/ very easy hooks for example a fancy chorus
Them are the rules, i have no problem with the rules. The rules make the competition a bit harder which would affect who and how many participates.

I strongly prefer the more restrictive rules. It feels like the true spirit of the event is to see how we can do more with less. With no-holds-barred rules, being limited to one synth isn't really a challenge. I wish the free-effects-only rule was in stone too, granted I'm biased since my broke-ass doesn't own commercial effects
For instance I don't see a specific rule against audio-rate modulation; I've always wanted to crank PPQ/control-rate and then fake some FM/AM or otherwise audio-rate modulation of random parameters. The possibilities that would open up! But that obviously isn't the spirit of the event. Might as well hack extra features into the VST at that point.
Plus I love how the restrictions make every month's entries so different. Compare the songs from the Mr. Alias month to the Crystal months. Or the months of a super basic subtractive synthesizer to a comprehensive FM synth. If we could just go nuts with effects, every month would practically sound the same. The most interesting part is seeing folks' creative solutions to squeezing out the most interesting/diverse sounds out of the given synth's limitations.
If it were up to me we'd doing months with One Ping Only and DX10, granted it's obviously a good thing that not much in the world is up to me

I almost completely agree with you! And I also wondered why the legendary One Ping Only didn't get his month in OSC!) Now we are already trying to choose synthesizers that have Win and Mac versions. I hope Full Bucket MPS will get their month one way or another)The Chase wrote: Tue Jul 26, 2022 8:06 pm ...

I always thought a kick generator VST would be a cool month.

Forgive me if it has been mentioned already - I think Wave Manuell could be an interesting synth. viewtopic.php?t=584587

Suggestion: Pick a stock synth from your daw challenge.

I am just wondering about this:
For the first Single Instance entry to make the top 5 a cash bonus of $50. (note: this prize may be carried forward to selected OSC challenges until it is won)

This prize has been won several times, and is still current. Maybe I need to re-word it.Tj Shredder wrote: Tue Aug 02, 2022 11:54 am I am just wondering about this:For the first Single Instance entry to make the top 5 a cash bonus of $50.
