For the specs and if it does deliver as promised then i agree it is indeed a reasonable price. Thing is with Marshall's re-issued stuff and say Mesa's re-issued MK IV and others over your side of the ocean can be had for a decent price, the Marshall's over here can be had for a decent price (yes even though they do ask too much for them in the first place, especially the handwired re-issues). The problem is due to keeping the brand names up/more expensive either side. So what we get is people in the UK lusting after Mesa/Boogie's but price is a stumbling block and people in the USA lusting after a Marshall but the price is a stumbling block. That is just the way each likes to keep it as some people will pay the extra ransom moneyHink wrote:in typical Hink fashion let me just say that I think with some of the high end brands you pay a pretentious fee. Of course Marshall charging about 5 times what they should be worth on re-issues doesn't help. I know I have talked about the boutique amp T5 (Frenzel's son Trevor) the BUD-25* but tbh for a handwired amp built for just you I dont think 1700usd is all that bad.Uncle E wrote:tbh, I do tend to get let down by a lot of the high end brands. Sweet! That sounds perfect for you!On another opposite note - I am pleased to hear Peavey have re-issued the 6505+ in a 1x12" 60 Watt Combo format speaking of things that i prefer, £499 RRP.
However I'm not thinking about that in the near future.
I think I finally hate amp sims!

Tell you what, the next time I visit the UK, I'll bring you a Boogie and you can send me home with a cheap Marshall. We win!NEKRO.MACHINE wrote:It is rather frustrating but business is business and keeping prices up either end/side works for them as business but not for us wanters

Still raving about this cab, I've got it miked up now, just pointing a neodymium-magnet SM-57 style microphone in its general direction and it sounds great. Even with gain, no need for two microphones, so no phase issues. Glad to know it records really well (even at pretty low volumes, 86dB or so, thanks to the Univalve's built-in attenuator).
All I'm waiting for now are two packages to arrive in the mail, a Wampler Faux Spring Reverb and a Wampler Faux Tape Echo, then I'll record an all-physical demo. Pretty excited, haven't done one of these in years but this thing sounds smoking. Just need the verb and delay, and I don't want to do it in post even though I've been using plugins for the job for years now, because this is supposed to be all physical, darn it.
I even got an extra multi-output power supply to add a couple extra pedals to the signal chain, including a wah I've been wanting to plug back in for a while now. Excited!
On a related note, now I'm eyeing the Picovalve head. Jet City + THD, I can get behind that
It'd look cute sitting on top of my Univalve on top of the cab.

Ah, it's time for a bump.
I just got the acmebargig headcase (I know, I swore I'd never get anything else x86, makes me look foolish because of all the x86 stuff I'm sellin) But at 26.35 I could not resist.
Fun so far, but like all sims, pluses and minuses. I'll throw some wanking together and post some sounds later

I've got a Line 6 POD HD500. It's the unit I've been waiting for, for about 7 years now, ever since I bought my first POD 2.0.
Poulin's stuff is nice. Some of what's in guitar rig is quite nice. I could even coax some nice tones out of POD farm...occasionally. But this thing finally scratches that ever-present itch: a modeler that sounds like a real amp.
Granted, if I had more...isolated living conditions I'd be micing up my Mesa/boogie. But this comes close enough for me.

That's good to hear! I wasn't impressed with it patched into the effects return of my Mesa Boogie but I didn't try it direct in.autumndreams wrote:I've got a Line 6 POD HD500. It's the unit I've been waiting for, for about 7 years now, ever since I bought my first POD 2.0.

I've done all kinds of playing with my physical setup, demo'd gear with it over Tinychat, helped a friend figure out something with a pedal of his via Skype, but the only recording I've made of the cab is the following demo of two V-Picks I bought. I've got 6 of the $10 ones now, which may seem ludicrous for picks, but they're lovely if you're a thick pick player. All of the $10 ones I bought are 4.1mm thick, but with very different characteristics apart from material and thickness. They have a fantastic feel and sound - and for boutique picks, they're actually damned reasonable, Blue Chips picks start at $35 and go up to $75, Red Bear picks are $25, and there's a pick made out of gemstone that can go over $100 easy on some of the amber models if I recall correctly). I've ditched Dunlop Big Stubbies entirely, my previous pick of choice.hibidy wrote:Er, I guessed failed here toohibidy wrote:Ah, it's time for a bump.

So, here is an incredibly anticlimactic demo of the Jet City 1x12 cab! Hooray... I'll do a real one with real playing soon, promise, but what the hell, this is just to show the difference in sound between the V-Picks Diamond Buffed and the V-Picks Snake Unbuffed. Same pickup position, same settings on my guitar and amp, same picking intensity - this is just how these two sound compared to each other:

In other physical setup related news, I'm about to sell about 2/3 of my massive pedal collection. Not because I don't like the pedals, but because my employment offers me pick of the litter, so to speak, of what I can say with some pride are among the best sounding pedals around. As such a lot of my collection just got deprecated, and non-sentimental stuff has to go. It'll be recycled in the form of new stuff, I'm sure
Totally unrelated, but this is sort of a general discussion thread anyway so I figure I'll remark on it. I just got a USA Fender Telecaster from 2003 today, I played it and fell in love. I was prepared to buy a G&L ASAT because I know G&L has pretty uniformly incredible quality, but the Fender American Tele was half the price (used, but in freaking mint condition) and played even better, so a quick call to my lovely wife later to confirm that she didn't mind me filling in the second to last gap in my collection, I'm a happy owner of a very well made, beautiful looking and sounding Telecaster.
Being from 2003, it's from the period where they were using nice, thick steel block individual bridge saddles with a lot of adjustment range both for action and intonation. I don't know why they stopped, these things are so easy to work with compared to the vintage style (even compensated) dual saddles, and even compared to the modern bent steel "classic" appearance saddles. They are also from the period where Fender was, I believe, using ceramic magnets in their teles instead of alnico, so the pickups are hotter and slightly brighter - I may replace them, we'll see how it goes. Part of what made me love it was how it sounds, so I don't want to mess with a good thing unnecessarily, but I love the Fender custom shop SCNs I installed in my MIJ Fender Special 22 strat; I'm sure the Telecaster versions would be a treat as well, and make it an effectively "noiseless" guitar, to the extent one can be.

I got four of these two years ago and they're still going strong. I made the mistake of doing pick scrapes with one of them, which quickly left deep grooves, but it still performs well despite that. Great picks!Agreed wrote:the only recording I've made of the cab is the following demo of two V-Picks I bought.
