At least, I'm positive I'm done buying vintage synths.
For now... :hihi:

I've had a relatively GAS free year.

My only purchases so far...

Cyclop
Dex And Daina Vocoloid
ArcSyn
Arturia V5 Collection
Factory
Softube Modular

Total expenditure...$699

On my to-get list

Curve 2
Minimonsta
Iris 2

And that's it.

So my total expenses this year will be a little over $1100.

Last year it was a little over $2400. So I'm getting better.

Still need a support group...but getting better.

Ohlson_M wrote:GAS is like a psychological trick your mind plays with you. When a new "revolutionary" plugin comes out every now and then you convince yourself that you need it in order to sound like the professionals. But great music has been made in the past without this new gear, so your logic quickly evaporates.

I have saved myself from making many unneccesary purchases by asking myself: "What does this give me that my other plugins cannot give me and if it adds something new, is it relevant to my workflow or genre? Some plugins are absolutely phenomenal for what they do but if we don´t take the time to answer this question before buying they will often only collect dust.

It´s more or less impossible to be productive when we constantly search for the next new thing or the best deal.
The last synth I've heard that could make "new" noises was Razor.

anyone selling v-synth xt?

A good cure is charging your PP account only once, say, 200 bucks. And then never again. So, if you want something new, you have to sell old stuff first :)

Since I got the Kork Minilogue and the Mother 32 my virtual GAS vanished :wheee:
But
I'm beginning to have it for the Eurorack and that's way worse that you can imagine :help:

For me is going to be ground for divorce!

Btw. now I appreciate U-he synths even more and because of the nature of the Eurorack I'm really learning to make my own presets, sounds, more precisely, since I can't save anything.
I had panic at the beginning but now I realize that I need to own my programming skills rather than just being lucky.

But what a rabbit hole $$$ this is :hihi:

I was looking at the Mother 32's last summer, and thought, bah, I can't afford it.
Then I went and bought a Harley (to go with the other two bikes in the garage). :dog:

this year's not quite half over, I'd say you're on track to match last year.

Based on the assumption nothing nothing new is released or you learn of something that currently exists and you decide you need to have.

Youre relativity new to buying software so of course the curve is logarithmic at the beginning and tails of as you acquire stuff that has existed for some time

Uh oh, I better not start my rant about bikes :hihi:

@topic: I'm kicking ass and taking names. I'm SO FAR beyond gas......nice and non-bloated (kicks back)

Yes, I am relatively new but you know what, I have gone through just about everything that's out there and there is a ton of stuff that's on my crossed off list.

This is just a short list of stuff I'll never be getting.

Symtohm
Diversion
AIR Loom
Rhino
Oxium
Synplant
Enzyme
Spire
Razor
Lush 101
Roland SH2
Helix
Surge
VirtualCZ
Sunrizer
Tera 3
HALion 5

Plus, I already own 88 soft synths.

So in truth, there really isn't a lot left for me to get. The few things I listed were mostly from Music Radar's top 50 list. Everything else I either already have or have written off as not needed.

Plus, a lot of older synths I won't get because their GUIs are so small, a problem that exists with quite a few of the synths I've listed above.

Then there are synths I won't get because I feel they are overpriced.

After all the smoke clears, if there's 10 synths that exist that I am even remotely interested in getting, it's a lot.

Yes, I am still waiting for Flexion, but it looks like that's never coming out. It's been a year since I signed up for the beta program and still never got contacted.

This isn't to say that I'm totally ruling out getting something if it interests me, but the number of synths coming out that are doing that are getting fewer and fewer.

I honestly don't expect to break $2,000 this year. I'd be stunned if I did.

I own more than 150 plugins and I know it's not a huge amount compared to some other users, but regardless, I have to humbly admit that it was totally unnecessary due to the lack of skills in crafting my own sounds and noises. I can easy admit that with just a few synths, 4 or 5, to cover a good spectrum of sounds, I would have saved a lot of money, which, I could have used to buy more Euroracks!

I guess I'm lucky. I have absolutely no desire to ever own another piece of hardware ever again. I'm totally over that addiction.
