I don't hear any pops or crackles when I listen.

Post

I do, but I didn't really notice them till someone brought it up....

I hear a madly oscillating LFO...

Yeah I can hear it too (@35 seconds) when I am wearing my headphones.
To be honest I didn't notice it before though.

I don't think there's any shame or stigma in us admitting that Spire does under certain circumstances spike the CPU (quite badly in some cases)

Hopefully any such discussion will further encourage the developer optimize Spire.
Sharpish :D

10-note polyphony, some unison as well.
50% CPU-load on my old Core2Duo :)

Can you post a dropbox link to this file, or better wav without any master compression? Maybe Soundcloud re-encode or clipping could have occurred somehow.

I'm back and I didn't realise my pad would cause such a stir.
Anyway, here are two files, both in mp3 vbr0, streaming from my website.
The first one is the original, with the crackles.
PD Swell original

The second one is the file I just rendered, with:
- a slighlty lower level of the two osc used (to make sure it wasn't clipping internally)
- a very slight tweak of one the LFO waveforms (it was a very steep triangular wave controlling the filter cutoff at 1/8 note)
- a double ASIO buffer.
This one seems crackle-free but I can't tell anymore.

Comparing these two files I obviously hear that there was an internal clipping or overdrive in the first render. Changing LFO and ASIO don't affect the rendered file to crackle when changing the OSC level does.

That is why I proposed above to add a metering-indicator of output level.

After playing a little more with Spire tonight, I'll confirm my initial thought:
This is what Sylenth1 should have been by now.
I love Sylenth1 but get a little frustrated with the limited modulation options and the not-so-good-anymore internal effects.

IMO, Spire is up there with the best VAs, which is quite surprising as it basically came out of nowhere.
I really hope it gets the success it deserves.

You are right about Spire it came out of nowhere a bit like Diversion and Synthmaker.
Its always a pleasant surprise when someone new comes to the Vst scene with
something a bit special. :)
On the surface Spire doesn't look much different than some other VA's but its sound is very different.
To my ears it has a really nice sound, crisp and very clean and yet crunchy as well as warm.

Agreed wholeheartedly Ghost. Very nice synth, great sound, and still quite straight forward on the face of it (with A LOT of depth once you start poking around a bit). I'll definitely be making a bank for Spire as well :D

Is there any ETA for the Mac 64bit version ?
Even at the current price I'm not sure I'd shell out for it unless I was sure it was going to be available in 64 bit reasonably soon.
