thanks,
Now, I just need to clarify for my own OCD :)I just need to know one thing for sure.
Can I use my own voice, and vocode it with another synth sound bypassing the internal sounds altogether?
Thanks,
dw

Right-click this and select 'view image' for a much bigger picture of the screenshot:dusted william wrote:the manual download link is broken,

Similar to what Lotuzia posted on page 29 for Cubase, but for Live:
1) make an audio track and put some audio on it.
2) insert the V+ as an effect (ie, don't insert the 'XILS V+ inst' file but the other file named 'XILS V+' if you're using a PC) on that audio track.
3) make a midi track in Live.
On the 'Midi To' button, change to the name of your audio track (in my case '1-Audio')
4) Select a VOC preset or something else useful on the V+ synth screen.
5) press run on the Live sequencer and play some notes on your midi keyboard.

Generally: well done Xils for this wonderful synth / vocoder.
It sounds brilliant.
A little bit of optimization still needs to take place to bring the CPU hit down, albeit this is the 1.00 release and I expect a few cycle-saving tweaks will take place over the next couple of weeks.
44.1, 48 and 88.2 khz works fine for all presets / patches on my Scan PC (top of the range 2 years ago)
But some of the more elaborate patches, eg the string and VOC preset patches (for all 6 provided preset designers), spike my computer badly in Ableton Live 8 even though Ableton doesn't register the spikes going through - the percentage bar sits at around 50-60% constantly, but some spikes leap through extremely quickly and unseen, causing the synth to churn out some additional, unintended noises at 96K.
Overall, great synth and a lot of fun.
Many thanks Xils.

Hi - am I right in thinking you're on a PC and you're using the 'Xils V+ inst' vst instead of the 'Xils V+' vst?audientronic wrote:I can't get any sound out of the BR Bassoon XO patch.
XILS have (possibly mistakenly) chosen to operate BR Bassoon XO as an effect, so to get this working simply insert the 'Xils V+' and not the 'Xils V+ inst' onto a midi track and play it.
Warning! - curiously after 5 minutes of using the above method for BR Bassoon XO, a brilliant malfunctioning started happening (at least on my PC): the synth started churning out a BANG OWWWW UUUUH noise!
Wonderful, if slightly alarming!!
Cheers.

This is a way how to use another synth (here PPG Wave 3.V) as vocoder input in Live 9:dusted william wrote:the manual download link is broken,

I'll check if a simpler setup works too.

My setup is different than the other one posted. Your setup seems to be for using external audio while mine uses a second synth as an input. BTW that preset in the screenshot is my own one.Doug1978 wrote:Ingonator wrote:...

Thanks I'm on a mac but that worked for me. And thanks for the warning. I always protect my ears with double redundancy now. Do you have a few specific patches (patch names) that i could check?Doug1978 wrote: But some of the more elaborate patches, eg the string and VOC preset patches (for all 6 provided preset designers), spike my computer badly in Ableton Live 8 even though Ableton doesn't register the spikes going through - the percentage bar sits at around 50-60% constantly, but some spikes leap through extremely quickly and unseen, causing the synth to churn out some additional, unintended noises at 96K.
I participated in Beta testing but did not observe this problem with the latest version. Anyway i used it at 44.1 kHz mostly. If you post a specific patch maybe i could reproduce it.
My own system is a more than 5 years old Core 2 Quad Q6600 (4 x 2.4 GHz), Windows 7 32-bit, eLicenser protection and Ableton live 9.0.4. Not what i would call a "high-end" setup.

Just had a look and there seems to be a problem indeed as none of the 3 parts is activated. I have mentioned this at the Beta forum now.audientronic wrote:I can't get any sound out of the BR Bassoon XO patch.
UPDATE:
This seems to be a vocoder preset. Xavier will answer about this soon.

I'll send you a PM now about the various spiking presets at 96k (at least on my machine) and attach screenshots and audio files for demonstration, but it's probably just easier to say that all the string and vocoder presets in every one of the six different preset folders is bringing out very fast spikes (but too quick for Live's CPU meter to register a change) on my machine - yet at 88.2k there are no issues at all!
Cheers.
