You view Molekular, Session Horns Pro, Rise & Hit, Action Strikes, and Kinetic Metal as "useless crap"?
to be honest - yes (to a certain extent)
Rounds has no demos up so far, so I can't tell... though I can say I don't like the GUI.
The Kontour demos don't give me anything, sounds like any other synth to me (and I didn't like prism and scannerXT)
Polyplex and molekular look like they're fun to play with but not so useful for actual producing.
Action strikes probably doesn't get much use in music production (IMHO action strings were extremely unflexible and therefor mostly useless)
kinetic metal might have potential though the demos suck and it's nothing that I would say "YES i always needed this for my productions".
Cuba seems ok, though probably only an easier way to get that kind of sound because most of us already have tons of percussion libraries.
Drumlab is probably the least interesting product out of the whole collection.
Oh and there are new pianos...yay.
Rise & Hit and Session horns pro are probably the only things I would constantly use but the latter only because they downgraded the non-pro version(which was in k9u) so much that it's almost unusable (you don't even get keyswitches for articulation switching... what a joke)

Hi Knocks, I wrote to NI to complain about the approximately 40-50% overnight price hike for Australians (and New Zealanders are also being charged in Australian dollars at this rate too I think). They explained that the Australian prices have been aligned with their Euro prices (they're selling to us from the Berlin branch now, not the American branch) :( . I recommend you sending them feedback as well. The more they hear it, the more hope they'll put us back onto US prices.

Pre-ordered K10U update. It looks and sounds fantastic. And I saved 15% on my car insurance! AND I SLEPT AT A HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS LAST NIGHT!!!! :)

Ok maybe not, but I did pre-order.

Well, this keyboard for 99 euro has polyphonic aftertouch:

Yep, and it feels like $99 crap too. Pass.
Seems like you did not get my point, which was:
if polyphonic aftertouch can be implemented in an 99 euro keyboard, it can hardly be too expensive for an 489 euro keyboard.

The XKey is surprinsingly well built for its price, though.
It feels also much better than most of the other compact keyboards.

Oh my god, all those knobs with the same level of integration would be fantastic. I would pay twice the amount of what they are asking for and it would be a bargain.

Echoes in the Attic wrote:How does this and Maschine handle Reaktor presets by the way? I haven't used Reaktor in Maschine in depth. Does it pull presets from the default factory path? Or from the factory path that you specify in preferences?

Sadly Maschine doesnt handle extra presets very well at all. All of Komplete FACTORY content has been tagged and available in a huge database.
But.. say you added a bunch of new 3rd party Massive presets which were then added to Massive's internal database, Maschine doesnt pick these up.. you'd have to save all the presets in maschine's own format.
Either NI have a batch converter that they arent sharing, or someone at NI sat and load/saved every single komplete preset within Maschine. (tedious..)

I really hope this is improved if Komplete browser will be using the same system.
.nmsv is a format Maschine understands so no conversion is needed unless they are in ksd format, and Massive can batch convert those - it was explicitly developed with import into Maschine in mind. Is there not an option to define custom user paths in the data base settings in Maschine to point to your Massive etc user libraries? I'm sure there should be.
Yeah I know the nmsv or nabs formats for the individual vsts are directly readable by Maschine, but I'm asking about Reaktor snapshots. I just did a test and it looks like it does open factory ensembles from the location you've told it in preferences rather than the default application folder, which is good because then you can use your editable factory ensembles. But obviously saving snapshots don't get added to the Maschine (or presumably Komplete) browser automatically like with other instruments. I guess for Reaktor you need to explicitly save it in the Maschine/Komplete browser eh?

The other thing is that with the factory reactor ensembles, they've mapped out a subset of controls which are ok, but for some ensembles I'd like to use my own mapping. In Maschine it's not possible to change this for all of them, you have to remap for an individual preset so I assume it will be the same for the Komplete browser. But the question, will the parameters exposed and their orders be editable as they are in Maschine?

bmanic wrote:To answer your question: Yes, it will take several seconds to load up new synths (especially reaktor + ensemble) but if you install Komplete on a good HD or SSD the time browsing goes down by some margin. It's still not as slick as a single synth and browsing it's presets but that's to be expected.

In the old days it could take up to a minute per preset to browse through them.. at least on the old emulator and akai samplers.. oh and the large programs I had for the Kurzweil. So a couple of seconds worth of waiting isn't too bad.
Ah, shame - have you actually played with the thing, bmanic?

I guess besides SSD (which I have already) is to have the results listed by plugin. So you go through a dozen from Massive, then onto FM8, then Razor etc. That way you're not reloading a new synth every single patch.
I have Maschine which is probably identical to how the Keyboard S will work. Having a giant list of presets from the whole library is awesome but some sounds do indeed take quite a while to load.. but this is to be expected. Think about it.. try loading a 2gb piano sample in kontakt. There's just no way around this. Not sure why it's such a deal killer for you though.

Who said it was a deal killer? For me it is "a shame", not a deal killer. We've all gone "no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, AH! EDIT!" when browsing, haven't we? If it's 3 secs between each one it's a bit of a buzzkill, that's all.

As I posted earlier, it would be neatest if search results are arranged first by library then alphabetically. Then all the Massive ones will be instant, then a coupla secs to load FM8, then Reaktor / Razor etc. It's kind of a tiday way of doing it anyway I think.

Yeah, that would indeed be a neat way of doing it. Still, the kontakt and reaktor library will always be a pain to browse. :)

You can of course select each synth by themselves quite easily and then just browse their presets. But I agree with you, having an "all presets or a bass/lead/type" list which is organized per synth, in order, would be quite nice.

Looks like I'm going to stay with the odd numbered Kompletes. I have 5,7,9 and with no Reaktor 6 in 10, it looks like I won't be upgrading until 11 comes out. Given how many point upgrades Reaktor 5 has had, I was expecting 6 to be in 10 and that I would be getting it as soon as it was available. I guess we'll be seeing Reaktor 5.10 soon, so only 91 more point upgrades before Reaktor 6!

Post

I wish they would implement pre-hear with VST patches in Maschine. Right now in maschine you can only prehear samples, not sounds.

Prehear sounds (of the synths in Komplete) on maschine would make patch browsing quicker.

Wow! I think it's an incredibly narrow-minded, snap-judgment view you've got there, but thanks for taking the time to type out a detailed answer.

So the product description says "includes Kontakt 5 and Guitar Rig 5", etc. No new versions, or do they come later?

If they come later, you will have to pay to upgrade again
