Ok, well, I thought in this very thread some people had some issues

I'll go back and re-read.

EDIT: I bumped this thread because I thought maybe there was something new. Seems that in a very quick glance-over that support has been slow at times and there are still some people experiencing issues.

The only issue I have is that I lose the top 2 octaves at times. Its happened about 5-7 times in 4 months. But its pretty annoying cause sometimes you have to re-install the firmware. Sometimes turning it off and resetting the parameters in Dashboard fix it and sometimes it requires firmware update. I really wish they would fix this, otherwise I'm pretty happy with it outside of there not being a solid standard for MPE out there yet.

Feel pretty happy with the Lightpad Block as well. like a mini MPE surface that I use mostly with my laptop.

What other issues were you referring to?

I recently got a Seaboard 49 and love most things about it except the inconsistent velocity response--particularly certain white keys in the area between two black keys.

The Seaboard has such a strong tactile/aural connection that the discrepancies between the velocity response of different keys and different areas within the same key are very noticeable.

Is this normal? I feel like an instrument of this type and price should have uniform velocity sensitivity.

(I know this is an old thread, so apologies for the bump if that's frowned upon.)

Frankly, I've never owned a controller that was super tight in velocity sensitivity. I usually have to make quite a few adjustments to the midi.

But that kinda bums me because I'm sure you are right, which would tick me off for that coin.

I exchanged it for a new one and there is still one noticeable dead spot where there is significantly less sensitivity. It is impossible to get strong velocity when hitting that specific spot (just below the middle of the lowest B key). When sliding up and down the key (away and towards myself) with firm, steady pressure, the response dips when travelling over that particular area and any parameter modulated by that y-axis movement does not change smoothly.

Otherwise, the keyboard and Equator synth combo is AMAZING. I just want to explore it and am dreading packing it up and driving to exchange it again. There's also a chance the new one will have a dead spot in a less desirable place. Now that I've gotten a taste of it, I'm not sure I could return it for my money back and live without it. What to do what to do...

I haven't noticed any dead spots on mine, but then again, I've never been particularly attentive to details. If I methodically tested the whole keyboard surface, I'd probably find something wrong which would then drive me crazy. Better not to know, I say! For whatever it's worth, the only problems I had were losing connection between the keyboard and computer in the early days, but that turned out to be a bad USB cable. Since switching to a better cable, I haven't had any problems at all.

lol it really is driving me crazy.

All y-axis points on every key get played at some point due to chord fingerings, preceding notes and following notes. That and the sliding movement mentioned above make it hard to ignore.

I'm not sure if the sensing fabric (or whatever it is) just isn't made with extreme consistency or if it's a problem created when the components are assembled. It's weird because the overall build quality is perfect.

I'm still watching everyone else's issues attentively... I hope some day to see all users describing these inconsistencies as a thing of the past.

The more advanced our technology gets, the narrower the tolerances in manufacturing. It seems like we're headed not toward more reliable technology but less. Especially with the tendency to make things as inexpensively as possible throughout most industry. How Roli, for example, purchases their components from component makers with the intent of building something like this... i suspect it's a bit maddening.

But that's the thing, isn't it? We wait and wait and wait and wait, and mostly it's bupkiss.

In general, I love my kit, but I'd like to be able to use something like this. But this (and many other) threads are full of cautionary tales.

It's just too much money in this day and age. I can play my nektar LX or novation LPP and they work fine. No dead spots, no real issues. 800 bones is a ton of money. (And controllers have been......dicey in my experience)

I hope they get it fixed, or there is a firmware update.

Just an update: I got everything squared away and the Seaboard 49 I have works perfectly. The Roli customer service I had was excellent.

I really am in love with seaboard/equator combo--It's so organic and there is a direct, natural physical connection to the sound, something I've never gotten elsewhere in synthland. An easy 10/10 from me.
