There is great potential right now making a cheap Linux box as a dedicated effects rack. A lot of plugins work on these VINE tools. That said, if I had the money I would buy a Receptor (or two or three). It is probably running some version of Linux and is rock solid and in a nice case. It comes with enough plugins to compete with a high-end TC-Electronics multi-effects rack. I could make something for a couple hundred less that does most of the same, if I had a few months of free time to set it up. That would cut into my music making....

If EXT went linux, I could see guitar players using small, cheap linux boxes with midi foot controllers cause it would be THAT stable. I could see building hardware synths with EXT as a vsti wrapper, and the 'kernel on moto chips, etc. Please, oh please give me an .rpm ASAP! Oh, and a slackware binary would be kool too. I would even pay for a whole new massiva key if I could trash my XP install for good. Please make it alsa/oss compatible though cause I can't seem to run Jack as non-root!
