It's a good mixer for what it's supposed to do. The vertical text is easy enough to read and has the benefit of not causing the channel strip to be unduly wide (which leads to tiresome horizontal scrolling). Downside is that some may prefer horizontal and thus wide strips. I suppose both ways have their benefits.

No, you can't see all the channel EQ settings at once. But why would you want to since one's eyes will only look at one at a time anyway if you are looking to actually apprehend something about a channel strip. I certainly can't look at channel 5 and channel 16 at the same time even it the information was there. You can easily copy and paste settings from one to another, though. And to see a strip's settings, merely click on that strip.

Yes, if you don't use the mixer's eq, but a VST instead :P

not to change the subject.... but is there going to be a new sampler in FL 6.0? thanks

That was a thin post! :)

I think the layout is perfect - the EQ placement is completely logical. I don't see why people don't appreciate the efficiency of FL's design. To get the same size Eq on every channel would use a trillion pixels.

I despise app programs which use vertical text. If they need that, there's definetly problem with the way it works. Or can you switch the whole mixer vertical?

To me it is good to see and hear different channels and how they are EQ'd. Your argument could be said this way too.. "why you would like to see the volume gain levels of each channel? you cannot look at different channels at the same time anyway" .. So basically you're saying all that info in the mixer is useless, just have numbers where you can click. What comes to looking channel 5 and 16 at the sametime should be possible - reorder the channels, that should be granted feature. Anyway, doesn't matter, not going to use that Fruity mixer anyway ;)

And why I'd like to use VST EQs? are the own EQs that crappy? ;)

No, I myself don't think so, but I don't need to "see the EQ settings of different channels at the same time" either 8)

AFAIK, you can't change it. Doesn't bother me, though I'd be for the feature for the sake of others.

Well you can see the volume/gain levels of 16 strips at a time all the time. One click and you can see another 16. That's in the current version.

I understand your reasoning, it just doesn't seem that important to me to try to see it all at once at the expense of screen real estate. All I have to do is click on the strip I'm interested in seeing and I can see whether I've remembered to do a bass cut or whatever. Click once more and I'm on another channel just as fast.

Also, and I think this is the most important thing to keep in mind concerning this criticism: lots of times you're gonna have a plug-in inserted that affects EQ on a particular strip. Being able to "see" the parametic settings (of just the host) on more than one channel at a time isn't necessarily going to be telling you anything terribly meaningful. There are too many layers of information in a stack of plug-ins. So, I think it's best to mix with your ears, set levels, and then concentrate on surgically altering one channel at a time. Does anyone disagree? I think it's the smartest way to think about it. Visuals in a vst environment aren't really all that meaningful except for ballpark broad-stroke cuts or boosts.

edit: also, you can assign any instrument to another strip with a few clicks. So reordering channels is quite possible. It's been a while since I used Orion, but I think you're stuck with them being in the order that you loaded the plugins. Maybe that's changed with this latest update.

Track freeze is a bandaid for inefficient VSTI plugs; I do not want it. All it does is add complexity, without adding value. The burden is on the plug developers; just do not buy / use junk plugs and you will be OK.

bouncing to .wav has always been a lifesaving technique when CPU is short... Freeze is the same thing wihtout all the hassle, so what's wrong with it?
