Compressor VST 4 sustaining guitar

Truth be told, my signal path is Guitar -> POD 2.0 -> Pre-Amp -> Computer. I just use the pre-amp to give good colour to the tone, helps liven things up. So I guess I do put compression before the pre-amp...but I almost always compress my signal again in Cubase, dry or distorted, so I lie; I have no rules.

I do struggle to get good sustain from the POD, though. But it's hard without a real amp to feedback to.
