Hmmm. this reminds me; i wanted to know what alan parson's up to these days. Has he done anything since his On Air album? That was quite a while back too. It's just that i've been out of touch with all this stuff for a while...

I saw the Pulse tour in '95, in Toronto. First off, it was the largest concert I'd ever been to, and that stadium was PACKED. Me and my crew were closer to the back than to the stage and a little off-center, so the quadrophonics didn't work very well. The delays in "Run Like Hell", for instance, were all over the place and certain hallmark sound effects were just careening around you and often louder than the band.

Apart from that, it was quite good, but I do wish I'd seen the Momentary Lapse tour in '87 (I wasn't into them then unfortunately), because I think that was a stronger album and had the strength of having something to prove. Plus the tour opened in my (then) hometown of Ottawa, Ontario.

I'd say: if Floyd ever came within distance of you, run, don't walk, to get tickets. But really try to get something closer to center-stadium, or else the sound suffers. Still, glad I could say I saw them. Looks like that could've been the last tour!

Wish You Were Here has always been my favorite, followed by Animals and Meddle. It is patient and not self-indulgent (which is amazing considering the length of songs and the theme).
I've heard criticisms that the album is boring. I do remember many times where I would fall asleep to this album under headphones. Soporific maybe (like In the Court of Crimson King and Trespass by Genesis).

yeah, i guess for a show that uses a lot on spatial sound FX and design [like a Floyd concert], the seating arrangement could make a lot of difference.

By the way, one enigmatic Floyd album [rather a compilation, by the track listing] is this one called "A Collection of Great Dance Songs"

I don't quite get it

. Is/was it a sort of a tongue-in-cheek jab at the dance scene? It was released in the early 80s when the dance scene was primarily left-over disco and the emerging breakdance thingy.

Any lowdown on that mysterious anthology?

AFAIK, it's just a best of. Nothing more. Kind of reeks of a honour-your-record-deal-after-you-breakup type of release...

I saw them on the Momentary lapse tour in '88 at Wembley. Nice gig. The bass on the opening of SOYCD could enduce involuntary bowel movements!

I was about 100ft from the stage, and got to see the lot very well, tho' may have missed out of some of the spatial effects.

The best one I went to was at Knebworth in 1975.

Even though I was tripping I remember it all very well and have even written it down as a short called "A beautiful day"

If you can, imagine a beautiful sunny day then as the sun was going down they started, I think it was the first live "Wish you were hear."

John Peel came on stage to announce that they were having problems with the generator..hehe..You could hear a humming noise that started to get louder and louder and then the noise seemed to come from the skies. Everybody was looking up.
Suddenly two spitfires flew overhead from the front of the stage, did a victory roll and flew off and then....Straight into the music...Everybody, that could hehe, stood and cheered..A very euphoric moment.

The sound setup was perfect, and I also remember the rocket speeding towards the stage and exploded as they were doing "heart of the sun." We left to the sound of "Echoes", we were in the dark and the beer cans on the ground sounded like we were stepping on bones......

Even though we went to see floyd the whole concert was fantastic. Beefheart, Steve Miller, Linda Lewis and others I can't remember, all were fantastic.

Difficult for me to believe it was just over 30 years ago.

I think waters is very hung up on war etc. It seems to feature in a lot of his solo stuff as well.

Ya gotta tell me: how was Captain Beefheart? 1975 would have been around the time of "Bongo Fury"...

Although I've been a fan for over 20 years I've never had the good luck to catch him and his band live.
