That's also an interesting point... one I seem to try to overlook but can't. :D

I can almost guarantee that I would actively dislike anything you like so your argument stinks.
I can hardly remember th elast time I bought a new album that actually inspired me in any way. The closest would be the Stranglers' last one, Norfolk Coast, and it is hardly original. Whilst I think that plenty of genres have been all but mined out, there are plenty of others in which the surface has barely been scratched before the focus moved on. EBM is a great example, it seems to have been dragged kicking and skreaming towards cheesy trance, just as it was starting to get interesting. And there are other genres that are perrenial. e.g. there is always room for more good pop and rock, its just a matter of the industry changin its focus back to quality.
NOVAkILL : Legion GO, AMD Z1x, 16GB RAM, Win11 | Audient EVO 8 | Lumi Keys | Studio Pro 8
Korg Odyssey, bx-oberhausen, Proxima, PolyMax, GR8, JP6K, Union, Atomika,
Invader 2, Flow Motion, Olga, TRK 01, Thorn, Spire, VG Iron

I used to thing the same some years ago...but it's just a matter of knowing where and how to look for that music that makes you feel better.

You don't find anything interesting nowadays? well, that's a pity. It's always been the same really no matter when, you have to make an effort to find the interesting.
for example, nowadays there's Amon Tobin, Foetus, Legendary Pink Dots...they keep making interesting music to my ears.

Some of this could be age related in the sense that now you've heard so much for so long, and little of what you hear now seems all that interesting. I find myself going back to music from the past decades because it makes more sense to me than most of what is new today. Tom Petty, Jethro Tull, Yes and on and on -- all produced some really great music that demanded more from listeners than most of today's creative output (although Green Day's American Idiot is truly an exception).

Also, there isn't a lot of innovative, fresh music being produced now despite the vast volumes from CDs, DVDs, Internet, satellite radio and other sources. Most of it sounds the same because it is the same. If 10 percent of today's music is outstanding that would be amazing, because I doubt it's even close to that.

And there's just too much music. The overall level of quality has gone down as the quantity goes up. The time and effort needed to find the gems is harder to come by as one gets older and life becomes busier and more complicated. I see band after band show up on Letterman, and I doubt that one in ten makes any impression on me.

I find that seeking other ways to occupy my leisure time is good. Listen to NPR, read magazines, rent some good movies. When you find you want to listen to music, do not let just anything get played. Choose stuff you really like and appreciate. Try listening with headphones to get closer to it. And, when the stuff out there all seems like crap (and most of it really is), make your own for your own enjoyment. No one but you has to like it, and the creative process really focuses your energy in positive ways.

You know, some weeks or even months down the road, things will be cool again with music, but you might have to become very selective. The good stuff is so good, but it's hidden among a cacophony of mediocrity. I like ambient music, and there's more of it available than ever, but I find so much of it tedious and stale -- much of it isn't even really ambient, just noise. That's why I noodle around with VST synths and effects making my own. It's just fun and sometimes I think I have a smidgeon of talent. :)

i don't know how much you're into world music but you can explore different country's music as a start if you haven't already. there are some really hard to explain weird stuff going on in terms of what other people make and listen to as music. nevermind if you're already an expert. other than that, in terms of making your own music, stop a little and wait until you come up with something you can call your own. invent your own music. you have all the tools. forget about all you have listened. you don't know what music is. you don't know time sigs and measures or what to do with an instrument. invent it all over. don't follow footsteps. i'm sure it'll be painstaking, but i think you've had too much music enter your ears. you need something new sonically. who am i to speak though. i'm sure you'll be ok once you are inspired.

Ever heard Tool? I've been listening to Lateralus nearly every week for the past three or four years. So much depth.

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.
