So the UVI engine problem is due to the fact that the UVI plugins have IYO badly written code, but this isn't a problem with any other host - as they also have badly written code, or at least don't follow the VST SDK spec. (or whatever) correctly - but IL & FL do.... but only they do.... only they do it correctly.... that's why those particular plugins don't work in FL.... it's their fault.... & the reason they work in other hosts is because they're all 'wrong' also.... but wrong in the same way, a way that allows the UVI engine plugins to work correctly..... & that's why the UVI engine plugins don't work in FL, because FL is 'right'... so it doesn't work.
m'kay.

I'm not even sure I know what DW *is*. Yet another sampler to further cloud the confusion about sample formats, that's all I see. Maybe it will load ST2 samples and be a better player than STLE. Or maybe it means I can buy one of the popular pianos or orchestral sets and not have to buy Kontakt or whatever. But I don't know.
Yeah, me too. I've been ignoring it until now, since the material on the IL site doesn't make it sound beguiling. But just out of curiosity, I 'added' the demo today. It seems to be totally locked into those bloodsuckers at Samplefusion, and dedicated to peddling their sample CDs to y'all. :P

But, it can also be used to get at samples in other formats (provided that they are not encrypted for use only in dedicated high-end players, buyer beware).

It'd be cool if someone could tell us about their experiences, how it fits in, etc., before I go wasting any more time on it... :?

You are contradicting yourself.

seems to be totally locked into those bloodsuckers at Samplefusion

then you say

But, it can also be used to get at samples in other formats

So here's the (growing) list of supported formats...

AKAI AKP (S5/6K,Z4,Z8 )
Battery (Only version 1, not version 2 banks).
DWP (Direct Wave Program, native format)
EXS24
Kontakt (Only version 1, not version 2 banks).
Recycle
SoundFont2

Totally locked? Which one is it?

I can simply drag any compatible format onto DW and it opens it...doesn't seem difficult or locked in any way to me.

DirectWave has a direct link to samplefusion, and why not? There is some free content available (nice) and you are not forced to buy anything.

Do any of the other host companies do anything different when promoting their content?

Next you say...

(provided that they are not encrypted for use only in dedicated high-end players, buyer beware).

as if you have discovered some secret agenda. When I look at the manual what do I see on the first page?

In bold no less...

Note: Direct Wave will not import the above formats if they are encrypted/protected files. Encryption is sometimes used to prevent non-native import of program files so caution should be used if you are planning to purchase any of these formats for use in Direct Wave.

This sounds like an issue with the the content creators trying to restrict you to their sampler. I checked, the DW format is open, no attempt to restrict it.

Directwave is made by Arguru. Most who have been around computer-based music have heard of him and the long history of his work in this area.

i have an amiga 1200 & (almost) all my mods stored in the 120 mb internal HD of it.
anyway there is a way on OS3.1 to format discs & save files on 3,5" 700 kb pc-format.
this way i transfered almost all of my old mods to my pc a while ago.
would have to check again how i did it *exactly*, but it worked...so... ;)

Indeed, PC floppy diskdrives cannot physically read AMIGA formatted disks (unless hardware modification), but the opposite is possible.

At the moment DW read .mod files, but I have nearly ready XM (fasttracker) and S3M (screamtracker) aswell.

It might be cool to support more old formats (iff, raw), but there's other more prioritary stuff in the todo list.

I for some reason lost my thought and posted before i said i intended... Here it goes:

Arguru's name alone should lend Directwave alot of credibility.

So for those on the fence about new sampler from Imageline - they should know the caliber of people they partner. Hopefully this will calm some worries and quiet some doubts.
