You should take the time to 'get your head aroung it'. If you like Acid, you will be stunned by Live..nuisance sonore wrote:Yeah, well, I hate Sonar ways of doing things, I can't get my head around Live and I've been having wet dreams about Vegas with midi functionalities for ages; this just might be it!
Too late in the game for Sony..

The host wars are laughable sometimes. It's as if no good music was ever recorded, released or composed til sonar or cubase sx 3 came out
It's what works for YOU that matters. If someone couldn't do a thing in another host, yet can produce some great stuff in acid, then the fact it's here and used is wholly justified.

It is good to see that Sony is waking up to become a serious host..or atleast trying to become one.
Features listed looks only good compared to previous version of ACID. But if it costs $500 then it is way behind the schedule..

It seems some people find interesting Sequencer wars so making it rain on someone else parade is the smartest thing to do.
I don´t use ACID anymore, for creative purposes i prefer Kontak or DMpro.
For what it was best known it beats Live with a leg tied behind is back and blindfolded, now if the VSTi\ASIO support gets really good, Drum maps et al... i think ACID 6 is in top of the game again.
I don´t want to be mean but did anyone noticed that Sonic Foundry summing is the best there is, to my ears definitly warmer and fuller than any other´s.

You're using a sampler to replace a host?stag wrote:I don´t use ACID anymore, for creative purposes i prefer Kontak or DMpro.
I disagree. Live is light years beyond ACID in many respects. ACID 6 seems like a step in the right direction but they are still way behind.stag wrote:For what it was best known it beats Live with a leg tied behind is back and blindfolded, now if the VSTi\ASIO support gets really good, Drum maps et al... i think ACID 6 is in top of the game again.

Few were more scathing about AcidPro 4 and 5 than me. Absolutely woeful down-market non-muso accountant-driven bug-ridden crap. I'd lost my love and was angry.
But I still have a soft spot for Acid. Even after investing money & tme in Sonar PE5 I'd still give it up and come back to Acid if the VSTi hosting is simple & robust, the MIDI implementation has been completely rewritten, and most of all....
... if it is stable.
Sony has shown a real problem with producing clean code. Well, more like a huge problem. There hasn't been a really solid version of AcidPro since version 3g imho.
Can they nail this one ?

Behind how and where? Live doesn't support video AFAIK, Nor surround mixing. And have you ever used Vegas style auto crossfade and ripple editing? Across multiple tracks? Inline enveloppe editing? Marker drop on the fly?John Vulich wrote: I disagree. Live is light years beyond ACID in many respects. ACID 6 seems like a step in the right direction but they are still way behind.
For certain type of work Vegas was/is without par and from the look of it, Sony took all the best from Vegas + all the best of Acid, added a bunch of functionalities to make it more flexible and called it an update. Unless alot of the features don't work like they're supposed to it will certainly compete with the best of them. The only thing a bit dated are the included FX (old DX stuff) and lack of VSTI; not really a big problem nowadays, is it?

I have invested in Sonar since version 1 (plus all ugrades to 5). But I have also tried Acid in the past (version 4 and 5).
I, too, have a soft spot for Acid but Acid 5 was horribly flaky and unstable for me.
While Sonar has been my main sequencer for years, I and now becoming highly critical of it. With Sonar 5 PE, it feels less stable on my machine and I am not impressed at all with its MIDI implementation.
With the type of music I now make, MIDI is becoming a huge component now and so this is a critical area for me to consider when upgrading a host.
If Acid 6 can pull it off and be stable (I will have to wait-and-see) and better MIDI implementation, then I can see myself upgrading to Sony's newest Acid incarnation.

Obviously if someone is interested in doing Post Production audio then of course ACID is better suited to that task. But really, how many people use ACID for post work?nuisance sonore wrote:Behind how and where? Live doesn't support video AFAIK, Nor surround mixing. I guess it depends on what you're using the program for. Perhaps I'm talking about what my needs are more than anything else. As far as a creative loop based composition environment I think that Live is far more advanced that ACID. To say otherwise is absurd. There is nothing even approaching the Session View in ACID yet alone Automation Clips, Follow Actions, a dynamic context sensitive interface, built in MIDI FX to name just a few. It's built in FX and Instruments are far more advanced than anything in ACID. Not to mention the asinine concept of ACID not allowing send FXs to be used for VSTis. It's probably the only audio host on the planet that suffers from this curious lack of a very basic feature.
They have consistantly introduced features that every other developer has introduced years ago and then seem to act as if the re-invented the wheel.
Well, this release seems to almost get them caught up to where most other hosts where about 2-3 years ago.
Whoopee!
BTW, unless I misunderstand the term, you can edit inline envelopes with Live and you can for sure assign a key to drop markers on the fly. Maybe you haven't tried v5 yet.
Yeah, I use Vegas every now and then for video editing and it is a very cool app. If ACID is indeed moving in this direction it would be a pleasent surprise. I guess we'll see.nuisance sonore wrote:For certain type of work Vegas was/is without par and from the look of it, Sony took all the best from Vegas + all the best of Acid, added a bunch of functionalities to make it more flexible and called it an update. If you wanna stabilise (more
) version 5, don't use the media manager, uninstall it completely and uninstall the mysql database that goes along with it (that's what i do e very reinstall......no, the reinstalls aren't acid related, i'm talking about after a format.) It boots up in seconds and doesn't do any mental freezing/crashing unless it gets a bad plug stuck in its teeth.
I also agree with john about live, that is an amazing tool and does have some really sweet things about it, but it's just not the tool for me and even when ver 6 comes, even if it misbehaves, i know for a fact i'm still going to love it. Even with all its flaws it has managed to bury itself deep in my heart
I'd never be one of those people who'd lie and say "oh, i've never had a problem with it" i've had plenty, but even then, like i said...
