I've thought for a while that it would be Traction 1. They have had a special CM Tracktion demo for ages.
Tracktion 1 on the CM coverdisk would definitely be very cool indeed - both for CM readers and for Tracktion.

If it is MuTools, then its functionality would be reduced so you would buy the full version like Muzy's.

MuTools appears to be more streamlined than Muzys which was the biggest problem whith it for first time users.

I might as well check computer music's site out?

I just checked :D :shock: :D

Only thing new is.........Also on the disc this month are the latest additions to the CM Studio - the ridiculously authentic sounding FabFilter One 2.01 virtual analogue monosynth

it is mutools, he clearly says so, and if you compare screen grabs with that and the original, its easy to see.

never heard of it myself, is it any good?

MUTON's release date has been moved to 31 March.

MUTON 1.0 will cost 39 EUR, around 49 USD.

There will also be MUTON FREE, a limited but fully functional and useful alternative!

What will be the diference of Muton Free and Muton ?

MUTON FREE is the same as MUTON Unlimited, except for these limits:

* Maximum 4 VST Instruments
* VSTIs are single-channel
* Only 1 Audio Stream Mixer Strip
* Maximum 2 Send Mixer Strips

Besides this, MUTON FREE works exactly the same as MUTON Unlimited.

Oh well, thats pretty useless then.

if they decided against T1 (bad move in my book obivously) then i would have thought a licensed tunafish derivative would have been a better bet designed as it is to be simple yet reasonably powerful ...

(anyone else think - quite apart from how it actually works which i obviously dont know - that muton / mutools just LOOKS awful ??? )

tunafish looks a LOT better, im going to be watching that anyway. That Mutools thing looks awful, and the restrictions are ridiculous, i dont care if its free or not.

Post

From what it seems like, Tunafish still doesn't record MIDI (even if it's supposed to be added). Also: does it record audio? Also: Is it platform compatible? MUTON seems to fit all these.

But Tunafish will evolve (hopefully) whereas Mutools is gonna be fixed.

of all those sasch i guess the corss-platform thing is the clincher for CM (wonder why mackie wouldnt let them have T1 though ??? )

Who says so?
Sure, the free version might not evolve - but then, it's free.

Rob, fwiw, Tracktion 1 is part of quite a lot OEM bundles these days, so maybe Mackie doesn't see any need to distribute it for free on some cover CD.

CD.
yeah well, the old 'its free so dont complain' argument is way past its sell by date. Free products may get a few fixes and thats it, and thats how its always been at CM (check DS404 et al)They dont get new features or expand in anyway.

Tunafish is a product in the making, read some of the devs posts or web info to see what he is doing.

Sure Dave, I know.
That's why I'd think the free sequencer is more something like a teaser. Anyways, doesn't seem too bad at all, from what I can see so far. Should be a pretty much reasonable thing to get you started into VSTs, MIDI and audio recording. There's not much like that for "free" (actually there's only the old Muzys and Frieves Music Producer). And Tunafish certainly isn't there yet either.

I'm constantly looking for free or very cheap things to get my students started, so they don't feel encouraged to start whatever P2P program and download the big guns.
And, as much as I may admire Bram's work, at the current state I could never recommend Tunafish, really. Most of the students have some sort of musical background in a way that they would record MIDI plus the occasional audio track(s) (that's also why Kristal isn't appropriate).
