Astor Piazolla or Terry Riley are easily on Mozart level, if not better.

indeed!stefancrs wrote:Keep in mind also that usually, really huge talents aren't recognized while they're active performers. Probably due to lack of perspective. But I'd still rate quite a lot of artists / bands as more talented than for instance Mozart, even if the rest of the world won't agree with me

I wrote:No really, I think this discussion is useless really. Talent is something you cannot measure, it's not even defined. So you can argue and argue and argue. To me Luke Vibert and Amon Tobin are both musical geniuses, certainly as much as Mozart.
Please re-read what I wrote - it was exactly the same thing you wrote. Just for the record, though, I am right of course - Luke Vibert is a genius (just look at him for christ's sake!)!edoosx wrote:someone can say that luke vibert is a genius, i can say he isn't, so who's right? how to demonstrate this?

Hear! Hear! I understand that Riley measures 1.23 on the Mozart scale and Piazzolla a whopping 1.74 (making him the greatest since Victor Silvester!)Democritus wrote:Astor Piazolla or Terry Riley are easily on Mozart level, if not better.

John Cale acknowledges that: getting all MIDI'd up decreased the time he spent playing an actual instrument, so even his keyboard skills deteriorated.dick wrote:I have pondered this for a long time about 5 mins but it seems to me that there is an inverse relationship between talent and technology.
OTOH, Mozart had an easy job: he only had to write down note pitch, position and length instead of 1000+ synth parameters, and he never had to worry about mixing and mastering.

Changing the tack slightly.
If Mozart was making music today what genre do you believe he would be making.

Personally I think he was pretty avantgarde for his time so maybe something leftfield, IDM or maybe Ambient Drum & Bass

No problem for me, since I don't like Mozart or Beethoven but I love Legendary Pink Dots or Einsturzende Neubauten.
