Limiter Shootout

I couldn't make out any real differences in the lightly limited clips, on the 6db i would have to say that C is my favorite it seems to work while not squishing or distorting anything. D seems to be a bit heavy on the highs freqs?
I'm from the people who look to the clarity of the mix not the rhythm part like bmanic mentioned and C seem to do the best job at that.
I don't really know this what it sounds like in my head.

So like I said... pointless. Why??bmanic wrote:Huh? That's the whole point of this test. I quite clearly say that in the first post. The point is to show that there is no such thing as the perfect limiter and the poll clearly shows that. It also shows that for certain material some limiters are not very good at raising the loudness a lot. Like you have probably noticed, the light limiting examples have very few differences, it's only with the more heavy limiting that the correct limiter for the task is required.pw wrote:exactly. the test is far from on any solid 'scientific' ground. Given bmanic's recent vocalisations about another test, I am suprised.Amberience wrote:The conclusion of this is just going to be that people have different tastes.
So what's the point?
Personally I'm a bit suprised of the results seen so far. It just shows that different people prioritise different things in the music. For instance, I think that the rythm part is one of the most important aspects in this tune. Some limiters don't handle it very well. Whereas other people seem to listen more to the overall "density" or "clarity" instead of specific parts.
What ever the final results, I think this poll has been very useful for everybody so keep em votes coming!
One more thing: You have to also consider the human factor, me. I chose the settings for each limiter and I am definately far from perfect when it comes to doing this. I hesitated a lot during the testing as I found it difficult to choose fair parameters. Basically I tried to get every limiter to sound as good as I could but it's still of course not objective.
Cheers!

Because it should be blatantly OBVIOUS even to the more moronic people at KvR that there is no perfect TOOL, and its only down to opinions at the end of the day...
Anyone who can't agree with that is either thick or has ulterior motives...
which begs the question... why even bother to try and open their eyes in the fashion that this test is trying??
Even after this people are still going to proclaim loud and clearly that X limiter is the best one because of Y reason, and then others will challenge that, and pretty soon a flamewar will ensue.
This whole "communication" thing is utter bollocks

As for this quote. Maybe "pw" didn't completely understand my objections about the "other" test?pw wrote: exactly. the test is far from on any solid 'scientific' ground. Given bmanic's recent vocalisations about another test, I am suprised.

I like A and B
Limiter A This limiter I think is a good choice for Hip Hop and Dance Sounds more like an Loudness maximizer
Limiter B This limiter makes the sound more compact.
In this song the limiter make the BD and SN more quietly
The song sounds fuller.
For this song I think B is the better choice.

My first impression was that A was the best, sounding bigger and somewhat louder. But then after listening a couple of times more i really think that B renders some details i cannot hear in the other ones, but i'm not that familiar with the original material, and i'd be hard pressed to pick the best one out of them.
Imo, also with the D everybody hates it's still a good mix and a great tune! : )

You already repsonded to this quote previously since I posted it a page ago...is it playing on your mind? Anyway, I have nothing more to add, I am pretty much in agreeance with what Amberience said in his post, and I don't want to add any more redundant rabblings.bmanic wrote:As for this quote. It was a redundant rant to begin with, from both of you.pw wrote:I am pretty much in agreeance with what Amberience said in his post, and I don't want to add any more redundant rabblings.
Don't you think you two monkeys are taking this just a *little* too seriously?
