If we compare limiters, then most of these choices don't apply.

EDIT: Now hold on: the Kjaerhus GPP-1 is a limiter! Hence my confusion...

Sorry, my mistake, the Kjaerhus GPP-1 should not have been included. Kingston is correct, this is about compressors not limiters (that's a poll for another time

)

I'm curious: I never hear anything about Buzzroom's BuzComp or BuzComp CL series. Does anyone use these? Does anyone take them seriously? They seem quite powerful and effective to me, comparable to Waves and Sonitus in execution - but they never created much of a stir around here. Deserved or forgetten gems?

I wouldn't say they're gems.

I haven't used any of the commercial ones he has, but all of the freebies are very very bread & butter.

I've already got vanilla comp to take care of that, and it isn't as bread and butter as it claims, which is nice.

In fact, with all these unique non-bread compressors around, who needs a generic sound?

Yeah, just curious. They seem to have all the right stuff, I thought people would've at least tried them out. I found his freebies a little confusing-if-promising, but he did make this one beta compressor, "BuzVintageMaxi_beta2", and this thing is awesome on drum and bass tracks. Reminds me of vintage gear a bit. It's my go-to for pumping drum tracks.

BuzComp... Mmh, I like the limiter but the other things are in my eyes only clones of waves-stuff - I dont like Waves. I go with Voxengo and Kjaerhus, the quality of this plugins keeps me off to buy a UAD

Yes, well, speaking of saving money, those Waves clones are super-cheap, for anyone looking for an option to the Waves stuff (I like Waves, but I kind of "grew up" on them).

I have to admit, when I first tried them I already had Marquis. Stakes were pretty high in that comparison.

The last one to move me in a positive way since the arrival of marquis was vanilla comp. I can get a surprising "rubbery" elastic tone out of it I haven't found anywhere else.

There you go: Marquis kicks ass, the first Voxengo compressor I really took to. I found the interface much more useable than some of the earlier ones. I do hope someone makes a GUI for Vanilla sometime.

Agreed. That SE-Skinned version of the guitar suite JCM900 didn't work very well and pumped up the CPU. Maybe we should hook up Grymjack with the Chunkware guy...
