first I thought the first on one (haven't listened to the one above yet) the playing was great...the tone was a little two dimension for me...something was missingmarkdeaton wrote:Haha Jason, I tried! *looks ashamed*
ASIO... latency... sound cards... this and that... I just get sick of working with it. I'm 35 so I didn't cut my teeth on software.
I like Simulanalog's JCM900 emulator though. Simple and easy to work with...

Software has come a long way. It's just the additional mess that goes along with it that I don't like. Also, some of those expensive software amp sims have a ton of background noise that has to be dealt with as well. Guitar Rig is one of them. Perhaps when I tried it out I had set it up wrong. I remember a noise gate function that was a bit too much for me.
Whatever works for you and is pleasing to your ear is definately best.

Really? I'm confused? you mean software amp sims have noise? or are you more keying in to the harsh quality they can have at times? Haven't used GR2markdeaton wrote: Also, some of those expensive software amp sims have a ton of background noise that has to be dealt with as well. Guitar Rig is one of them.

Lets all remember, a podxt is basically software with its own DSP chip.
It just barely qualifies as "hardware" any more than a computer with an amp sim on it.

it provides it's own processing...that's like saying digital reverbs/delays/multi fx, rackmount units aren't harware because they have a dsp chip...me thinx you spoke before you thunk...Jason Brian Merrill wrote:Lets all remember, a podxt is basically software with its own DSP chip.

Also, unlike a generic processor, DSP is dedicated to signal processing and thus can take a greater load for a more realistic simulation.... theoretically

It just barely qualifies as "hardware" any more than a computer with an amp sim on it.I can think of a few million that might disagree...in fact some might say that "hardware processors" didn't really come into thier own umtil the invention of the dsp chip
