I haven't tried all, but a few and I must say the CLAS is the best and it's free.

That's because Spectralive is cobbled together in Synth Edit and hyped beyond the the abilty of Crysonics to "explain" what the plugin is doing.
The only downside of the synth edit thing is that I have to print the effect, too much cpu draw otherwise.
The mystery thing doesn't bother me. A lot of the shit I like is mysterious and unreproducable. Like the lexicon vortex, or most hardware EQ's -- you never know what the f**ker's going to do, you just twiddle the knobs til it sounds good.
I think most people would mix better if the dials didn't have labels and meters all over the place. Instead of constantly looking at gain reduction and eq curves, they'd have to listen.
(Not saying that you haven't listened to the spectralive thing. Maybe you have, and you don't like it. Good.)

It looks like CLAS is a loudness maximizer. Is that right?
And who knows what spectralive is? I just went to their website for the first time since I bought the thing, and I can't make any sense of what they're claiming except that it makes things sound better. Which, to me, sometimes, it does.
Their claim that it eliminates the need for a good monitoring envirnoment doesn't really inspire much confidence. But, as I say, I really don't care what it is, or what they think it is.

I'd vote for Elogoxa Baxxpander and X-Citer if it'd be in the list, cause I prefer using them (freeware) over Crysonic or BBE Sonic Maximizer. Crysonic gives me trouble (contacted them a couple of times, still no satisfying answer), BBE Sonic Maximizer sounds too harsh in my opinion. Never tried CLAS.
You can't really say that "Magneto" is an exciter, it's more like a saturation tool. And to be host, I never really liked this plugin.
I really wonder why Elogoxa wasn't considered for this list. These plugins don't need to hide from commercial products. Even though they're freeware, and a lot of people might say "OMG Freeware can't be good", these tools offer more than meets the eye (er... ear) if you know how to use them well.

I use CLAS on the master bus,- with very slight settings - normally 4 or 5.
I find for some reason it makes my mixes translate very well indeed and in fact makes them sound more like they sound in the studio on other setups - and that's a great thing. I think this has something to do with the way it plays with the phase of the audio, delaying ever so slightly different parts of the frequency spectrum. However it works it does it very well, and much better than BBE.
Yeah I use it for a little hi-frequency sparkle, but only if it's lacking.
Kind regards
Dave Rich

I like the Spectralive, even though it quite cpu intensive.
But I never add it onto a mix. I usually apply it on vox.
But it was a while since I used it now.
CLAS is also good, but lacks the bass for a mix, IMHO.
Cheers

I think 4Front: Auxiter is exellent for bringing clarity and detail to individual tracks in a mix..especially for Orchestral Strings...bringing out bow noise and stuff....great stuff.
Cheers.
Cheers.

Just a quick question: where should I put the exciter? I use CLAS (nice on indeed!) but don't know if I should put it BEHIND or BEFORE the Compressor. My master chain looks like this:
Kjaerhus EQ ---> GMulti (= multiband-compressor)---> Buzmaxxi 3.
So, should I put the CLAS exciter before the MB or better afterwards? In my opionion it sounds better behind, but maybe thats "wrong" (for what reason ever...
) and should be placed before.
Thanx allready for help!

The answer is "Yes!" Whatever sounds best, sez I. I tend to put the exciter before the multiband, FWIW.adl wrote:Just a quick question: where should I put the exciter? I use CLAS (nice on indeed!) but don't know if I should put it BEHIND or BEFORE the Compressor. My master chain looks like this:
