It may just be the honeymoon, but I'm amazed. All the little gripes I had with the older models, Fenders in particular, are gone! My POS Strat sounds great now -- in fact, I had to lower the pups because the new models have such clarity. Smooth, smooth emulations now.
Oh, and the "Bad" preset is to die for. Through buckers (and with less echo echo echo echo echo), it has that big, golden warm silvery hi-fi AC-30 tone after which I've been lusting. Just turn down the echo echo echo echo echo...
I guess I won't be buying anything from NI for a while!Anyway, I hate to rave, but this is really good. I'll try to find something to hate about it, but I'm not promising anything.

*shrug* Maybe I just haven't updated my firmware or drivers in a while. Lemme check...
Firmware is at 2.05; I seem to recall it at 2.01 before, but I'm not certain enough to bet on it! Before this version of GearBox, I applied GuitarPort 2.5.1; does anybody know what that updates the firmware to?
Drivers went from 2.5.0 to 3.0.0; better drivers can easily account for what I perceive as better overall sound (such as in the Fender and AC-30 sims). I don't feel like comparing presets too closely, but updates here could also account for improved tone. So yeah, you could well be right about the actual models being the same.
Btw, I prefer the old GuitarPort interface, myself. But the new one is fine.
