MEMBER MUTED. Click to view... it feels kind of wussy stuff innit? but what the hell, if i figure out cubase mixer i will manage to ignore jerks with more panache from now on.
For starters perhaps a thread like: "Cubase 4 hatry fan club whine here".
I think it's better than going to Samp 9 or Sonar 6 thread posting about something i naturally dislike and snub... Thanks to some of their user base, respect to developers everywhere.

It's so atrociosly bad to the point that I think someone at steinberg is pure evil. Like they have a particularly feisty demon running the customer relations department or something.gruberman wrote:And they are still in business?HanafiH wrote:Customer Support? The Steinberg Method:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when was cubase.net ever a support forum? Support is handled directly by Steinberg or here in Scandinavia by MI7 which are very easy to get hold of. The forum is meant for discussion, isn't it?
This is the proper way to get support for a product:
http://www.steinberg.net/287_1.html
I've had one reason to get in touch with a Steinberg representative and that was to get permission using screenshots for a website. It took me around a day and was done by posting on cubase.net to get the contact info for the correct person.

In which case why not do either of the following:Majken wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but when was cubase.net ever a support forum? Support is handled directly by Steinberg or here in Scandinavia by MI7 which are very easy to get hold of. The forum is meant for discussion, isn't it?

Put a big visible sticky disclaimer anywhere on Cubase.net saying what you have said above,
OR
Have any of the Steinberg employees who spend all their time policing dongle registrations telling people who ask for support what you have said above?

Well the problem with the forum is that it's open to anyone using Steinberg software. However people living outside of USA should contact their local distributor for support. Or as stated in the support section of the site "Your local distributor is responsible for your support requests."
So yes, you might get support through the forum. But it's unreasonable to believe that the forum moderators are able to read through all the threads looking for support questions to answer. A forum is a great way to get help from other users, but to get support directly from the manufacturer you really should use the standard support request forms.

I welcome upgrades, and Steinberg has come a long way since my first Pro 24.
But mostly I'm holding out for workflow improvements a la Ableton Live or Project 5.
The current timeline approach in Cubase is fine for final song delivery, but not for song creation. I'm tired of cutting and pasting across the timeline when writing new songs, and with Live around I feel deprived too.
Is there something in SX4 for creative flow?
Kingston alluded to this earlier, and a lot of other people too.
Have Steinberg listened?
We'll have to wait and see.
Anyone got an SX4 release date?

The smart money is on 2 years since the last release. Full info will be released at the end of this month. Steinberg are just trickling out teasers for now. People heaping vitriol on them or judging the product from the ad page scan are actually helping Steinberg market the upgrade. This kind of marketing needs controversy to work.kevvvvv wrote:Anyone got an SX4 release date?

Uhhh... SX3 has a Play Order Track - see a video of it on this page:kevvvvv wrote:The current timeline approach in Cubase is fine for final song delivery, but not for song creation. I'm tired of cutting and pasting across the timeline when writing new songs

You can use "flatten play order" to re-arrange the song and save the project on the new song name. I use it all the time to turn longer cues into bumpers and commercial spot cues.

jesus - steinbergs tech suport is not that bad
they are still the only ones i know of who post a list of all the known bugs in their software, how to reproduce them and how to get the job done around the bug
oh but the jokers go - they need to - there is so many bugs !
last new sonar shipped with more than the 75 bugs they fixed in the first point release - and that wasn't the end of the fixes
yes - i'm sure they can be elusive about some product issues - but big companies are like that - the phone monkey does not know the answer to complex problems and if it doesnt get to the right people or they ahve no answer they may well not respond
PS the person moaning baout groove agent in the example given was using it in an unsupported sequencer (pro-tools) - Steinberg werent interested - nor should they be - It would have made far more sense for the person to moan to fxpansion about the vst to rtas convertor - they might even be able to solve it

I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

To my knowledge, official Steinberg support is through your national distributor anyway. The moderators who police dongle numbers on the forums are not Steinberg staff, they are volunteers who look after the forums and surprisingly get nothing back for their efforts.
I have contacted my local distributor and they are actually quite helpful in many cases. They also have direct ties into the folks at Steinberg and thus can give people a nudge if they suspect a real bug.
Sure, it would be great if Steinberg listened on forums like smaller developers, but Cubase is used by a huge amount of people compared to some of the smaller sequencers. It would be incredibly complex to keep everyone happy. I still think they could improve things, and do business similar to Ableton, who do public beta testing and give people the opportunity to report bugs where every single bug reported is investigated.
As for me, I love Cubase, nothing else I've tried even compares, including Pro Tools, Sonar or any of the newer hosts out there. Personally, I feel that only Logic Audio compares to Cubase, but again ... look at what people say about THEIR support ... it's not all greener on the other side.
I've been thinking about this upgrade for a while now, wondering what new core improvements could be made, and apart from...
- Reordable inserts
- Flexible groups
- Neater display of VSTis
- Bug fixes
- Pitch correction built in
I can't think of anything else I'd like to see ... meanwhile if you look at Sonar, even with this new upgrade, we are still missing big things like...
- Proper MIDI editing (multiple controller lanes .etc)
- Decent Score Editing
- Built in Audio Editor
- Proper project organisation (Audio Pool is one of the best things in Cubase)
- Workflow improvements (I have read countless testaments of Sonar converts to Cubase who say that Cubase is much more logical and easier to use and I completely agree with this after playing with the Sonar 5 demo for a few days)

What are "Motif waves"? Even if they are from real Motif(ES) it's not enough to get Motif sounds. There should be whole Motif's synth patch implement including original filters/eqs/effects/lfos...Shigurui wrote:HALion One with Motif waves

hmm, I've been wondering about this too, isn't Motif a synth ? Motif wavetables ... in a sampler ?Radek wrote:What are "Motif waves"?
