I find LiveSlice to be the easiest workflow for sampling and slicing beats. Route some audio into LiveSlice, record, and its all sliced, mapped, and ready to go.

I don't know what software you're comparing it to but said software must suck UNBELIEVABLY hard.

Here's my "sample mapping process" for FL:

1) Drag sample to FPC pad or Step sequencer
2) Play beat

i think the only think you can say about what hip hop looks for is two turtables and a microphone. anything beyond that is bonus tools to extend the art
Not going to get very far without anything to play on your decks, though I suppose you could beatbox.
yeah i suppose they'll need a power bar, and wires to hook shit up to the mixer as well.

and possibly lunch.

I had an mpc2000, and I found it much slower at chopping samples than my Zoom sampletrak wich can be had for less than $100 used(not mine :) ).

The 2000 was a pain to chop with compared to the software I use now.
i have a zoom sampletrak.... but anyway that's not what kk and I were discussing originaly, if it was about what was better to me, what i liked better, or what was more conducive I would have said ableton live, thats not what the dicussion was about, it was about why hiphop samplist use the mpc, and he said some stupid shit. the mpc samples slices maps samples and sequences them faster than any software. ableton live doesn't even have a slicer, ableton live doesn't even map samples automaticly. We're not talking about the user we're talking about the machines.

wtf is up with people not even listening, fuckin rediculous. dude I use Fruityloops but let me ask you something ..... what part of 'YOUR QUOTING ME' did you not understand. first you quote my statement about sampling slicing mapping samples and sequencing , and then you proceed to tell me about your FL sample mapping process :? , I think you left a little out of the equation
don't you think.

stale bread wrote:nope you're wrong, it's not my opinion its a fact. i'm not talking about whats conducive, i'm not talking about what's faster and it is a simple fact that sampling slicing mapping samples and sequencing is faster in the mpc, there are less steps less prep, and more imediacey. my favorite thing in the world is ableton Live and to turn on live, arm track record clip, transfer clip to arrange view control e a million times for however many slices you want all the while not slicing by transients so for each slice you must zoom in and figure out what you want, then slice then load an instrument in which to drop the samples or drag them back to the session view and apply correct triggering parameters and don't even get into assigning to your controller.

the mpc does all of this much faster its a fact and if you didn't like when you tried the mpc that's fine, I didn't like my first mpc i was like wtf is this and got rid of it a week later and got into ableton Live but that's not what we're talking about. the mpc (not every hardware sampler) but the mpc IS... faster.
so imagine you weren't bullshitting and if you don't like hiphop then wtf are you doing in the thread.
Now show me where, exactly, you make any point OTHER than MPC being somehow a faster and more effective sequencer than a fully-fledged digital host.

Unless I missed something huge, you proposed that, somehow, it is easier and faster to assemble a drumkit and compose a beat in an MPC on that little LED screen with a knob and a couple buttons than it is in a DAW host.

You want more detailed process? fine. Load any beat into Edison or record some streaming percussion right in. Hit "auto-slice". Zoom in or out and move the slice markers (if it's even necessary). Drag the samples to FPC or a sampler channel. Program beat.

On a GOOD day, you could load a disk full of samples into the MPC and map them about as fast as you could chop up raw percussion in Edison and create a new kit from scratch.

Comparing EITHER the process of recording raw audio, trimming it, and mapping it in both or quick-mapping a kit from preexisting samples in both, it's no contest. MPC is NOT faster, though you for some reason seem to think that it is.

you're wrong my friend. you must be using your grandfathers mpc, it is faster on an mpc to press record, sample the audio, then presss slice/assign to pads and then sequence. pre existing samples is not even what the discussion is about AGAIN, but I think my unbelievably sucky host of choice 'ableton Live' might beat the mp in that regard but i'll have to check/count steps

Air might come in handy as well, both to breathe and to carry the funky beats, yo.

Something to stand on might help too. The Earth, for instance.

A power station, generator + gas or a big battery will also be needed to power the turntables, speakers and amp (oops, gonna need those too), unless they get some sort of exercise bike that generates electricity, but it doesn't look very hip hop to be sweating on an exercise bike whilst trying to beat juggle. Never know, might win the DMCs though.
